Flash Player will no longer play Flash from today

Adobe today put another nail in the coffin of Flash, making it so the Flash Player can no longer play all these games and animations and things. The company announced officially ended support for the Flash Player on December 31st, after prophesising its death back in 2017, and today they straight stop it from working. However, you can still play and watch a lot of…

Adobe Flash gets one last update before being killed off

So long, Flash. After decades of driving independent game developers, animators and artists, the venerable web tool is being shut down for good at the end of the month. This week, Adobe pushed the final release of Flash Player to the web with a fond farewell - and an encouragement to uninstall the compromised tool before official support ends on December 31st. It's not every…

Classic Flash games are now preserved and playable at the Internet Archive

We've known for three years that Adobe planned on killing off Flash at the end of 2020. Now that we're nearing December 31st, stalwart of digital preservation the Internet Archive has stepped up and put together an emulated Flash library, so you can continue to watch and play hundreds of old faves from your browser.

The original FarmVille is shutting down on Facebook in December

Summer's well over now and it's time to reap what's been sown. Adobe's decision to cease support for Flash will soon be bearing fruit, including FarmVille's demise. You know, the farm simulation game that touched PC users' hearts before Stardew Valley came along. Zynga's later farming simulation games will continue on but the original will be going dark at the end of 2020.

Free games hub Kongregate is no longer accepting new submissions

It's been a long time coming, but Adobe Flash's drawn-out death spiral is coming to a close. This week, free browser game portal Kongregate announced that it'll no longer be accepting new submissions to the site, laying off several staff members as it pivots entirely towards developing and publishing games. While everything currently hosted on the site will remain there for the foreseeable, they're the…

Flashpoint launcher is saving Flash games from impending extinction

We've known about Adobe's plans to kill of Flash for years now. Back in 2017 Alice O shouted off a list of memorable Flash games and it's telling that I've an entirely different list in my head (as do all of you) of games that it will be a shame to lose. Fortunately there are enough preservationists here in the wilds of The Internet looking…

Have You Played… Copter?

Speak not to me of your Flappy Bird, childling. I only sup from the finest Flash cup. In here? Why, it's fully liquidised Copter. Please, have a taste. Ah yes, I can tell from your crinkling nose and gurning, twisted mouth that you do not see anything special about this crude single-click game of helicoptering through a simplistic cavern of lime green walls. Please, go…

Priceless Play – 5 January 2019

It's 2019 now. I know you know that -- it's been 2019 for at least several days or more by the time you are reading this. If you don't know that it's 2019, I hope that it is because by the time you're reading this it's actually 2020 or something equally as wild as the passing of time. In this new year, in this little…

You’re Gonna Have to Jump: The retro games of Homestar Runner

Trogdor is a dragon borne of the Internet, like something out of Shadowrun, and January 13th saw him turn 15 years old. Trogdor, for the uninitiated, is a 12-year-old’s awesome notebook doodle, a dragon shaped like the letter S with an inexplicably beefy human arm coming out of his back. He's a recurring character from the webseries Homestar Runner, cartoons which followed the childish obsessions…

Adobe to kill Flash Player plugin in 2020

Flash, the browser plugin which massively helped shape games as we know them today, is retiring. Adobe have announced that they will stop updating and distributing the Flash Player "by the end of 2020". The main browsers will remove their built-in support. Browser-based Flash will die in 2020. I will fondly remember it for so very many tower defense games, puzzlers, and platformers, as well…

Randomised Ranch Dressing: Westerado’s Wild West RPG

Craig wrote about Westerado back in January, but I like to think we live in a time where there is no past or future, only an eternal present. Also I first heard about it at the weekend and it's swell. Westerado is a western-set RPG in which your brother and mother are killed and you want to find who did it and avenge their deaths.…

The West Is Fun In Westerado

Adult Swim's Western RPG flash game Westerado has been playing in a background tab of Chrome for about an hour now. I've been listening to the music and imagining stars overhead, the pop and crackle of a campfire, and wondering if there really is a life to be had away from my desk? I could be a cowboy. I have a whip, and I could…

Hey, Let’s All Play Unmanned Together

I’ve just had couple of playthroughs of Molleindustria's Unmanned and my immediate reaction to it was that I wanted other people to play it and talk about it. It’s about the mundanity of one man’s life, despite being a UAD pilot for the military, and the thoughts that flit through his brain during the day. You pick at those threads, creating his inner-monologue while carrying…

Productivity = Gone: Defender’s Quest

Oh no. It's happened again. I've started playing a Tower Defence game. My email inbox and To Do list are not going to be happy, because out goes any sense of doing any work today in favour of upgrading and recharging and next wave and circle placement and what's this? It's got an RPG-based levelling up your party metagame? That's it. I'm done for.

Swim In Adult Badness

Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is certainly responsible for some of the finest cartooning entertainment about, but were you aware they also make some of the most entertainingly offensive Flash games on the internet? You are now! What about Five Minutes To Kill (Yourself)? "Stick it to the man, by sticking it to yourself." You are in an office, driven insane by meetings, and have all of…
