Forza studio Playground Games open a new UK studio with some serious pedigree

Forza Horizon

It seems that every other industry story lately is one of woe and lamentation. Of studios cut loose by publishers, employees fired or indies struggling to make ends meet, so it’s nice to be able to write about a developer on the up-and-up.

As reported on Gamesindustry.biz, Forza Horizon creators Playground Games have officially opened up a new 200-man studio in Leamington Spa, with plans for the newly assembled team (including some notable hires) to work on a mysterious new action RPG property.

Final Fantasy XV(‘s car) comes to PC via Forza Horizon 3

Final Fantasy XV is sadly still not announced for PC, but a large lump from it is soon coming here in a roundabout way. Microsoft today announced that Prince Noctis’s car, the Regalia, will soon escape the fantasy world and come free to the Australia of Forza Horizon 3 [official site]. Turn 10 Studios have rebuilt the car in Forza so folks can race and roam our world just like their favourite anime boyband. The car’s due to arrive on Tuesday, August 1st, and to get it you’ll simply need to have played FH3 by then. Read the rest of this entry »

Wheels on fire: Forza Horizon 3’s Hot Wheels DLC out

Vertical roads, loop-the-loops, rings of fire, smashzones, and other such wackiness has arrived in Forza Horizon 3 [official site] with the launch of its Hot Wheels expansion yesterday. It adds several of Mattel’s toy cars as well as a new portion of the world filled with those orange stunt tracks. As a Trackmania fan, I’m delighted to see such silliness spread to other racing games.

While the Hot Wheels expansion costs money, a big update is out now free for all players. It brings support for another 21 steering wheel controllers, performance improvements, and more graphics options for low-end PCs. Read the rest of this entry »

Forza Horizon 3 going wacky with Hot Wheels expansion

TrackMania-style kooky racing is coming to Forza Horizon 3 [official site] in May with an expansion styled after Mattel’s Hot Wheels toy cars. Horizoneers will get to roll along walls and leap through fire on some delightfully unrealistic tracks in snazzy new cars. I am always in favour of these shenanigans in every single driving game. Even serious sims should add loop-de-loops and backflips so we can watch millions of Euros of car crash and burn.

Another patch is in the works too, bringing performance improvements and support for a wider range of steering wheel peripherals. Read the rest of this entry »

Parpy Christmas: Forza Horizon 3’s icy expansion out

Discover the true meaning of Christmas in the heartwarming first Forza Horizon 3 [official site] expansion. Blizzard Mountain, released yesterday, tells the tale of a group of cars jostling for love and attention from Santy Claus, racing across ice and snow to prove they’re better than any reindeer. Racing through new icy lands, a lineup of new trucks and cars will come to realise that Santa loves them all and that they should stop competing. The final race ends with the cars round a fire glugging marshmallow-laden cocoa into their radiators. Perfect. I’m welling up just thinking about it. Read the rest of this entry »

Parp Parp! Forza Horizon 3 Demo Hits Windows 10

If you fancy a Sunday drive, you might want to take a look at Forza Horizon 3 [official site]. A demo for the open-world racer has arrived on Windows 10, letting folks pootle around a hunk of its virtual Australia for free. I suppose you can also drive quickly in those there races, but that seems very undignified. It’s also an opportunity to check out how much the game has improved since launch, when it was a bit wonky. You can grab the demo from the Windows Store. Read the rest of this entry »

Brrr: Forza Horizon 3 Teases Icy Expansion

Microsoft have teased that the first Forza Horizon 3 [official site] expansion will be going somewhere a fair bit chillier than the beaches and rainforests of the main game. It’ll launch later this year. They don’t have much to say about it but we can safely assume that Microsoft wouldn’t be so irresponsible as to promote driving in dangerous conditions. So we can reasonably assume that rather have players race through ice and snow, it’ll involve sitting parked by the roadside until the weather clears. Read the rest of this entry »

Bonza Zooming: Forza Horizon 3 Released On Win 10

Australia’s natural car ecosystem was ruined by the arrival of European invaders and the foreign cars which stowed away on their ships. Facing no natural predators, car species like the BMW M3 and Reliant three-wheelers quickly dominated all biomes. Forza Horizon 3 [official site], as I understand it, is a game about subtly stamping out those invasive species by driving them quite quickly and unsafely. ‘Racing’, the pest controllers call it. Now we can join in, as the Australian open-world racer is out today on Windows 10. Hark, a launch trailer:

Forza Horizon 3 Announced, Coming To Windows 10

Coo ‘eck, will Microsoft be bringing everything to Windows 10 now? After confirming Gears of War 4 for PC, they announced Forza Horizon 3 [official site] during their E3 press event and yep, it’s also coming to Windows 10 as well as Xbone. Forza Horizon is a spin-off from the Xbox racing series, an open-world zoomer about a wacky car festival. Which means that drivers (and Drivatars!) get to zoom around rainforests, along beaches, and over dunes in a colourful little slice of Australia. It’s due in September.
