Something nice for the weekend for you. Ghost Control Inc., a mash-up of X-COM and Ghostbusters that apparently didn’t exist–even though the idea is pretty compelling–has been out for a few weeks. Normally I wouldn’t just post about a wee game being out for a while, but in this case the developers have released a demo, enabling you to play before you pay, hunt before you take a punt, trapping before snapping (open your wallet). In 2015, the Ghostbusters remake will dominate multiplexes, with its blockbuster cast – Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller – grinning at the world from posters on every street corner. Bill Murray will have a cameo, playing the ghost of Garfield, and Slimer will twerk in 97% of his scenes. Don’t worry too much though – nobody will force you to watch it at the cinema. Network television will replay it during every holiday, however, and your children/siblings/pets will inexplicably adore the antics of Stay Puft Girrrl and demand to see that one bit when she dances, using the Empire State Building as a pole.
If that all sounds like too much excitement, perhaps the more tranquil pace of GhostControl Inc will be to your taste. It’s a ghosthunting management sim with turn-based trapping and it’s available now.

I didn’t realise how much I wanted a mash-up of X-COM and Ghostbusters until I saw the Kickstarter page for GhostControl Inc. As soon as I had realised how much I wanted the game, I swiftly came to appreciate the nineties-styled Theme Residence design, particularly as it should make great variety possible. Buildings stitched together from various components, so the game is about exploring the layouts of a fictional London’s buildings as much as catching ghosts. Well, maybe the ghosts will take precedence but I do want to spend some time just poking around in those wee houses. The target is a modest £7,500, the pitch video is as daft as a dog on a unicycle and if all goes well it’ll be out by September.
