Wot I Think: Lego Marvel’s Avengers

Something very odd is going on at Traveller’s Tales. I’m not sure how, but in Lego Marvel’s Avengers [official site] they’ve managed to release a game that actively goes out of its way to hide everything good about it. So much so that it was only after hours of snoring through its dull, phoned in story mode that I discovered, behind a completely obscure and unmentioned menu option, what was really on offer here. Here’s wot I think:

Bam! Bif! Pow! LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Out Today

I’m not trying to give Warner Bros. horrible ideas but: I’m surprised that the LEGO games haven’t taken the Skylanders and Amiibo approach and started selling plastic LEGOfolk to unlock their virtual counterparts. That’s not… please don’t do that. I’m just surprised that LEGO Marvel’s Avengers [official site] is out today boasting of having “over 100 new characters that have not appeared in a LEGO videogame before” without charging extra for them. That could be a good £300 of plastic. Of which I could take a cut as a consultant. Dear god, please someone stop me. Dare me to stuff 17 marshmallows into my gob, cosh me, hold my head underwater, fill me with ravenous rats – anything to stop me from HEY IAN BROS. LISTEN UP I’VE GOT A GREAT IDE Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Trailer Roams Manhattan

We missed out on that mega-super-turbo-movie-comic-game crossover bonanza LEGO Dimensions round these PC parts, probably because it’s one of those buy-toys-to-put-them-in-the-game doodads made for consoles. Oh well! Our next outing to a plastic world will come with LEGO Marvel’s Avengers [official site] in January, following a delay. It’s far more than just the movie Avengers, mind. A new trailer shows superhero antics in its ‘free roam’ zones, and you’ll also catch a wee glimpse of Jessica Jones fighting crime in her Jewel costume, which… look, yeah, maybe I’ve hoped to play as Jess in her old leather jacket, swigging cheap bourbon (and in the game).

Marvel At The Trailer For LEGO Marvel’s Avengers

Look fierce

As someone who grew up with LEGO blocks but did not otherwise continue their fascination into adulthood, the tie-in games have always been a source of gentle bewilderment. But I think the latest trailer for LEGO Marvel’s Avengers might have finally sold me. Unfortunately it also brings word that the game has been delayed from this autumn to winter.

LEGO Duo: Avengers & Jurassic World Announced

No, I know. This is from 2013's LEGO Marvel Super Heroes.

The simultaneous announcement of two new LEGO games makes me suddenly pained that they don’t let you mix-and-match parts from different games in the way one can with real LEGO [possibly the only capitalised brand name I’ll respect -ed.]. Obviously I’ll want to take the Black Widow from LEGO Marvel’s Avengers over into LEGO Jurassic World to zap raptors with her Widow’s Sting, and yes I absolutely would like to whack Loki with an ankylosaurus’s clubbed tail. Alas, the two games are separate for, one imagines, innumerable legal and technical reasons.

To celebrate this announcement, loads of LEGO games are on sale on Steam too.
