Wot I Think: Lego Star Wars – The Force Awakens

In some ways Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens [official site] is a refreshing of the extraordinarily prolific Traveller’s Tales series. In other ways it’s fastidiously adherent to the tried-and-tested formula. In nearly all ways it’s a completely splendid game, but even I – the most enthusiastic proponent of this series – am beginning to weary. Here’s wot I think:

Sweet FA: Lego Star Wars – The Force Awakens Launches Broken

Update 2: And now the game is finally working. I imagine our review code will arrive any month now!

Update: It seems that a missing 9.5GB of the game are now appearing on people’s hard drives. What a pickle.

Original story: Warner/Traveller’s Tales have historically treated the PC releases of their Lego games with what can only be described as contempt. Despite the games almost always being completely wonderful, from marketing to access to review code, PC is bizarrely ignored. It was only the most recent of the few dozen games that acknowledged PC system settings as even being a thing. And now the latest, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has launched on Steam as a black screen.

Poe Dameron Shows Off In LEGO Star Wars Trailer

Yeah, Han! I knew you'd defeat Kylo Ren this time!

Oh! I’d entirely forgotten about LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens [official site], possibly because its announcement leaked out with a pffffft. But yes, a plasticised adaptation of last year’s boldly-going megahit movie is coming on June 28th, a new trailer reminds me. It’s not the greatest trailer, unless you’re really, really into Poe Dameron (yeah, I’ve seen your fan art), but hey, I’m glad to be reminded this is coming. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Coming In June

It’s been six weeks since I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens and, on reflection, yes the best bit is definitely the robots and carpet man making all their silly noises. I laughed every time. I have high hopes, then, for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens. TT Games always bring ‘the laffs’ in their plasticised riffs on movies, and they have such strong source material here! We’re not supposed to know yet that their next blocky adventure is The Force Awakens (heck, LEGO Avengers only just came out), but a trailer and Xbox store listing have arrived a bit before the game’s actually announced.
