Have You Played… Majesty?

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time. I didn't love Majesty [official site] as much as I loved the concept of Majesty, which is probably why I've been waiting for a(nother) sequel for so long. A new version, done properly, could well be one of my favourite games.

Majesty 2: Battles Of Ardania Goes Gold

The second expansion for fantasy village bribery sim Majesty 2, Battles of Ardania, is out now. Ardania adds a new 8 mission campaign, 4 new multiplayer maps, a sprinkling of new weapons and a couple of glugs of new monsters. I sat down with Alec, RPS's resident Majesty 2 veteran, to ask him how he felt about this expansion. Not that he's actually played it…

Really Scrape The Sky: Majesty 2: Kingmaker

I ended up not actually playing any more of Majesty 2 after its pre-release code, but Alec didn't find its city-management totally revolting. Or at least it didn't increase the amount of dark woe in his black heart more than was there before he started playing, leading him to descend into his special dank pit, to carve gargoyles of all those who raise his ire.…

Regent’s Treat – Majesty 2: Kingmaker

Good news, everyone. Last year's sequel to the beloved, olden, indirect-control strategy game Majesty is to receive an expansion pack. Well, of course it bloody is. It's an RTS. An RTS without an expansion pack is unthinkable. Where else would we get our new maps and units from? How else will we find out what ultimately happens to some supporting character we didn't really care…

Wot I Think: Majesty 2

The sequel to Microprose/Cyberlore's 2000 RTS/RPG/management game has just hit, this time handled by one of Russian omni-developer/publisher 1C's many studios. I confess I've never played the first game, but I was intrigued enough by this decade-on sequel to take a nose... There‚Äôs something rather scathing about Majesty 2. It tears away the pretend philanthropy and nobility of fantasy heroes, leaving the terrible truth of…

My Kingdom For A Gift Horse: Majesty 2 Demo

We've written quite a bit about Majesty 2 so far. In fact, I've also got some review code an internet-click away which I need to have a prod at. But you can circumvent the RPS-information-drip and go and play the bally thing yourself. There's a 640Mb Demo available to download here. There's no details I can find what's in it. Let's hope it's actually a…

Highly Acceptable In the 80s: Majesty 2 Retro Trailer

One of our Unknown Pleasures for 2009, Majesty 2 once again makes our heart happy with their latest trailer. It's done in the style of an 80s made-for-TV serial. It also features an impressive technical feat by creating a soundtrack which sounds identical to Dallas, but probably not in a legally infringing way. You'll find it below...

The Heroes And Villains Of Majesty 2

It's not all impossi-budget shooters being shown to the drooling crowds at E3 here on RPS this week. For a change of pace, we've rounded up Steve Breslin and Alexey Kozyrev, editor and producer respectively on upcoming RTS/management/RPG sequel Majesty 2: The Fantasy Management Sim. They'd very much like to give you sterling people an exclusive look at the men, women, beasts and demonic rocky…

Majesty 2: Videos 4

What's better than a new video? Two new videos. What's better than two new videos? Three new videos. What's better than three new videos? Four new videos. However, if you go any higher than that it loops around and becomes rubbish again, so it's lucky Paradox stopped there when choosing to release a new mass of footage of RPS-Unknown-Pleasure Majesty 2. You'll find it below…

Unknown Pleasures 2009: Majesty 2

Majesty 2 is the only sequel on our Unknown Pleasures list. It's because the first Majesty was something of an unknown, unique pleasure upon its first release and the nine years since then will have done nothing to change that. It explored an area - indirect control of forces - which few RTS have dreamed of touching, and that topography of tactics is as fresh…

The Once and Future King? Majesty returns.

In much welcome news - in our interview, Ex-Civ4 veteran Soren Johnson noted it's a shame a spiritual heir for the game doesn't exist - Paradox Interactive announces a sequel for Majesty, planned for in 2009. Only shame is that original developers Cyberlore aren't involved, which is perhaps predictable, as they don't exist in the same state anymore. Instead, the task falls to 1C: Ino-Co,…
