Minecraft overhauling NPC villages, adding pandas

Along with announcing dungeon-crawling spin-off Minecraft: Dungeons, over the weekend Mojang laid out their plans for future additions to plain ol' Minecraft. The next major update is named 'Village & Pillage', and it'll make NPC villages more unique and interesting with new styles and daily routines, along with new enemies to pillage them. Also in the pipeline: pandas, cats, a crossbow, and an overhaul of…

Minecraft: Dungeons will dungeon-crawl through the blockworld

A new Minecraft spin-off game will delve into the blockworld as a dungeon-crawler in 2019, developers Mojang announced this weekend during their MineCon fan event. Minecraft: Dungeons is its name, and whacking monsters is its game. Inspired by "classic dungeon crawler games", they say, it'll send up to four players to whack and stab and thwipp and zap through Minecrafty levels and monsters, grabbing whatever…

Minecraft: Minecon London Gets Dates, Venue

You know how MineCon ended up postponing its London visit til spring 2015? Well, Mojang have now released details on where and when the gathering will take place... It's the ExCel Centre on July 4th and 5th. I think it's safe to say "spring" has slipped a little but, as per their postponement post, Mojang needed a confirmed and signed-for venue before making the announcement.

Seeing Redstone: Mojang Details Minecraft’s 1.5 Update

While we slept off traditionally fatal turkey venoms or, you know, did non-festive things, Mojang took over Disneyland this weekend. No, no, Notch and co didn't buy Disney (yet; that won't happen for another couple years, at least), but they did host MineCon at Disneyland Paris. And though I imagine there was plenty of magic and childlike wonderment involved, they did - at certain points…

Minecon 2012 Will Be Held At Disneyland, Paris

Following the success of Minecon in Las Vegas last year, the latest, greatest gathering of block lovers will take place in Europe, at Disneyland Paris. I went there once. Dragged along as surly teenager by my over-keen family. The highlight of my trip was our daily visit to the theme-hotel restaurant, whose chalkboard proudly proclaimed an offering of "Barbecued Children." The French-speaking staff refused to…

The Cult Of Minecraft, Live

Minecon is done and dusted (no, we weren't there - the RPS private zeppelin was in for servicing that week, so we couldn't make it out to Vegas). Anyone go? If not, here's a taste of what it was like, with the lavish, jokey keynote speech - featuring a history of Minecraft, a specially-commissioned animated short film documenting a day in the life of Steve,…

Mineception: Minecon’s Official Trailer

We know you've spend all day hitting F5 just for this, and finally the moment has arrived: Minecon's official trailer is here. It shows the journey of Minecraft's default avatar, Steve, from his lovely forest-based house all the way to Minecon. The con has been created in Minecraft. It's so meta that I want to check that I'm writing this in the real world, and…

Block Party: MineCon Is On

If you're the kind of chap who wants to talk to other chaps about redstone and biomes, you'll be glad to hear that it's full steam ahead for MineCon 2011, the first official Minecraft convention. It's to be held in Vegas on November 18-19 (which means RPS won't be there. How about a Britlander one too?) and tickets will cost you $99. That's a lot…
