Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode has started season 2

Blip bloop.

Young people: what are they like? We just don’t know. We’ve all heard the unlikely stories of these ‘twenty-somethings’ getting jobs, going to university, making friends, acquiring and using yoyos, and even playing video games, but what are the young’uns really into? You can now resume your undercover investigations, as Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 [official site] has started. Telltale released the first episode last night, which follows on from the 2015-2016 season with more cubical adventuring in the traditional Telltale way. It’s like The Walking Dead but with YouTubers instead of murderers and cannibals, yeah? That’s what young people like. Look: Read the rest of this entry »

Minecraft: Story Mode – Season 2 starts in July

Telltale Games have announced a second season of their cuboid adventure series Minecraft: Story Mode [official site]. As is the Telltale way, Season 2 will pick off where the first left off, remembering your decisions and lumping you with the consequences. Though the consequences here are somewhat sunnier than in e.g. The Walking Dead seasons, seeing as it’s based on Minecraft. Season 2 will kick off on July 11th. Read the rest of this entry »

Minecraft: Story Mode episode 1 free on Steam for a bit

You’re still ‘down with’ teenagers, of course you are. Them with their interest in skateboarding and Ant & Dec and their cool lingo like ‘cowabunga’, ‘necking’ and ‘jam that with a slice of ham’. You’ll impress all your teen relatives at the coming month of festivities, I’m sure. But what about the younger ones? Do preteens still calling good things ‘well Cbeebies’ and bad things ‘total Dipsy’? What do they even like? What will they think of you? What will they think of old, old you? It’s fine: they’re mostly into Minecraft and MDMA. I can help you with the former, at least. Look: the first episode of Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is free for a bit. Minecraft: Story Mode Ep 7 Jacking In Next Week

Ooh everyone’s jacking in nowadays. Even video game characters can’t resist slapping on their cybergoggles and, apparently, playing a blocky version of Dishonored. That’s what Jesse will be up to in Episode 7 of Minecraft: Story Mode [official site], which Telltale have announced will launch next Tuesday. With a sentient Redstone computer taking over everyone’s minds, it looks like Jesse is entering the cyberzone to brainjack its minions. Cybering within cybering – a very advanced technique.

Minecraft: Story Mode Welcomes Celebrity YouTubers

Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] has brought in a load of famous YouTube people for its latest episode, which seems like something they should’ve done from the start. Growed-ups might coo over the sardonic comedy stylings of Patton Oswalt (I’ve enjoyed him in Lady Dynamite lately – good innit?) but kids would much rather adventure with Stampy Cat. Now they can meet him, and other beloved youngfolk with children’s TV presenter voices, in Episode 6: A Portal to Mystery.

Minecraft: Story Mode Ep 5 Decamps To Sky City

The fifth episode of the Telltale episodic adventure Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is out now – it was due to be the final episode but Telltale are now going to do an extra three episodes as DLC not covered by the season pass. So a kind of epilogue, I guess? Or maybe a mini adventure? Or maybe we will watch a man patting trees down in order to make a table for a while?

The latter is probably why I am not working at Telltale as a story creator. ANYWAY. Episode 5 has a trailer:

Telltale Announce Extra Minecraft: Story Mode Episodes

Telltale’s episodic adventure Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is due to wrap up this month an- oh no, no it isn’t. Telltale today announced that the fifth episode of their storytelling spin-off will launch next Tuesday, March 29th, but also announced that it won’t be the final episode. Another three parts are coming later this year, Telltale now say, “post-season episodes” sold as DLC beyond the original five-episode season pass.

Minecraft: Story Mode Ep 4 Exploring Far Lands Today

I’m not much of a Minecrafter myself, but as a fan of the work of algorithms I was fascinated by the idea of the brick ’em up’s old Far Lands – distant, distant places where the world generation and physics started to go wonky and create alien landscapes (because numbers). So I’m pretty interested to see the concept pop up in Telltale’s episodic adventure Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] with Episode 4: A Block and a Hard Place, which is due out today. Have a peek in this trailer:

Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Episode 3 Out Today

Crumbs, Telltale Games aren’t half barrelling through their block-oriented episodic adventure Minecraft: Story Mode [official site]. While their recently-concluded Borderlands and Game of Thrones series would go two, three, even four months between episodes, Minecraft’s dropped three episodes within six weeks. Hark at you, Minecrafters, aren’t you so flipping special! Episode 3: The Last Place You Look is out later today, and this here collection of moving pictures (it’s even a talkie!) show a little of what’s to come:

Cor, That Was Fast! Minecraft: Story Mode Ep 2 Today

The second chapter of Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is out today, which is a little surprising considering the spin-off episodic storyventure game only started a fortnight ago, on October 13th. Telltale’s last few series have gone two, three, even four months between the first and second episodes, so coo-ee, aren’t you fancy?

I’m not playing Minecraft: Story Mode myself and am not sure who it’s even being made for but, here, I can tell you some words about Episode 2 and show you some moving pictures (a talkie) with a few snippets:

Adventure Ho! Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Started

Am I a big enough fan of Paul Reubens, dear Pee Wee Herman, to pick up Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] to hear more of him? Prrrobably not. Not until it’s a little cheaper, anyway. But perhaps your interest in Minecraft and/or Telltale Games’ episodic adventures and/or voice-havers like Patton Oswalt and Billy West is enough for you. If so, good news! The first episode of Telltale’s latest, which tells a story of would-be heroes in the world of Minecraft, launched last night.

Minecraft: Story Mode Unearths Episode 1 Trailer

En garde! Touché!

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month – and no returns. Now we’ve dispensed with the formalities, OH GOD it’s October where did this come from I’m not ready for this did you know it was coming how could they let this happen? While October for me mostly means sudden dread of everything I thought was far in the future, it also means games that were due in the distant Earth month of Oct-tober are almost here. Such as: Minecraft: Story Mode [official site].

Telltale’s episodic adventure about a gang of building chums wanting to become like their heroes will start in a fortnight, as a new trailer reminds:

Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Starts October 15th

Minecraft: Story Mode [official site] is, confusingly, not a story mode for Minecraft. It’s a separate episodic series of adventure games from Telltale Games, the merry gang behind The Walking Dead and Tales from the Borderlands and all that. As Adam noted, it’s an adventure in that Telltale style which seems to smoosh together the LEGO Movie and Minecraft YouTuber adventures – and to that I’ll add what I imagine my niece’s dreams must look like after an afternoon of sweeties and Minecraft.

The first of five episodes, named ‘The Order of the Stone’, will be coming on October 15th, Telltale and Mojang announced today. Here, come see that trailer again:

Episodic Awesome: Telltale’s Minecraft – Story Mode

When Telltale announced that they’d be working on an episodic Minecraft adventure game [official site], the old hound cynicism sloped across my chamber and nestled its head in my lap, looking up at the screen with eyes like sorrowful saucers. He let out a wheezy whine. The size of the license is more important than the potential for pleasant, semi-passive interactive storytelling, it seemed to say.

The first trailer, which you can see below, has sent the cur scurrying back to his den within the scullery. Story Mode doesn’t look particularly interesting, during this initial glimpse, but the direction Telltale are taking is clearer. It’s somewhere between the blocky playfulness and creative commentary of The Lego Movie, and the ongoing adventures of a thousand Minecraft Youtubers.

Tell You No Lie – Telltale Making Minecraft: Story Mode

Oh.

So, that Minecraft‘s pretty popular, isn’t it? Apparently worth a fair chunk of change too. I see sprogs wandering the streets brandishing foam pixelated swords all the time, Minecraft t-shirts on their chests. Playing it has turned folks on YouTube into Internet celebrities and heck, it even has its own convention. In a way, it’s surprising that it’s taken this long to make a baffling spin-off.

Telltale Games – yes, them lot behind The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us – are making an episodic Minecraft story-o-game named Minecraft: Story Mode.
