Shambling: Overkill’s The Walking Dead delayed again

Co-op brain-busting FPS Overkill’s The Walking Dead [official site] is now due in the second half of 2018, following yet another delay. It was previously due some time in 2017, and 2016 before that. Made by Payday developers Overkill Software, the game’s still a bit of a mystery, beyond being a co-op zombie-killing FPS with L4D-sounding dynamic levels and new characters and stories in the world of Robert Kirkman’s zombie comics. Given how vague everything we know is, a delay is little surprise. Read the rest of this entry »

The PC games of 2017 mega-preview

As Old Father Time grabs his sickle and prepares to take ailing 2016 around the back of the barn for a big sleep, we’re looking to the future. The mewling pup that goes by the name 2017 will come into the world soon and we must prepare ourselves for its arrival. Here at RPS, our preparations come in the form of this enormous preview feature, which contains details on more than a hundred of the exciting games that are coming our way over the next twelve months. 2016 was a good one – in the world of games at least – but, ever the optimists, we’re hoping next year will be even better.

Starbreeze Making Co-op FPS Based On F2P CrossFire

Starbreeze Studios, makers of the Riddick FPS and owners of Payday devs Overkill, have announced a new co-op FPS based on Smilegate’s F2P mega-hit CrossFire (pictured above). How big a hit? Up to six million players online at once big. I’m familiar with South Korean developers making free-to-play versions of western FPS–and still fascinated by Counter-Strike Nexon Zombies–but can’t think of many times it’s gone the other way. Fingers crossed their CrossFire embraces the original’s weirdness.

StarVR: Starbreeze Get Into Cybergoggles

Folks have been gushing and gasping (and grumbling, in my case) for years about the coming virtual reality revolution, but it’s all about to kick off. Valve’s Vive is due later this year, Oculus have revealed the Rift consumer model that’ll launch in early 2016, and Microsoft’s augmented reality HoloLens will follow Windows 10. Starbreeze Studios want in.

The company behind Brothers, Syndicate, and (through their subsidiary Overkill) the Payday games have snapped up cybergoggle makers InfinitEye. Along with releasing hardware under the name StarVR, they plan to make VR-friendly games – starting with Overkill’s The Walking Dead.

PaydayZ: Overkill’s Walking Dead Co-op FPS

Boo! Or is that ghosts?

Don’t blame the zombie. Look at ‘im! That brainless schlub isn’t responsible for the shoddy games he’s often found in. He’s a symptom, not the cause. You know what, I think I might even enjoy murdering the li’l fella. Zombies be damned, I’m looking forward to Payday creators Overkill’s new game–a co-op FPS based on The Walking Dead–because it’s a co-op FPS made by Overkill. It wasn’t the fool zombies’ fault that the last Walking Dead FPS was such a horrible mess. Those poor zombies have enough on their hands, and some don’t even have those.
