Squad based ghoul-em-up Phantom Halls haunts Kickstarter

It’s hard to find well done horror comedy. It’s like a great peanut-butter chocolate — you really gotta get the ratio right or it is going to be a disaster. So Phantom Halls comes along and wants to give me an origami Evil Dead 2 with squad mechanics and just layers of cute nightmares. Yeah, that’s the ratio. And yes, I do mean licensed Evil Dead 2 content. The Bruce is back.

Diorama Dreams: The Handcrafted World Of Lumino City

Crane Town, they call this.

We’ve admired the papercraft world of Lumino City before and oh me oh my, it’s still looking gorgeous a year later. A new trailer lets us into State of Play’s world of paper and card and wood and metal and motors and electric lights and crafty bits for another two minutes before politely bringing the conversation round to how, it’s late, they’re busy tomorrow, and they’ve got to get up early. “Wheee!” we giggle as the pinball machine lights up and bings before starting the trailer over.

Look, we do try to write interesting, entertaining or at least semi-legible words about games, not just point and bellow ‘HERE IS A FAN-THING ABOUT A GAME WOT WE QUITE LIKE.’ Sometimes, though, it’s hard not to just go ‘awwww’ and ‘Oh God I want that so much.’

The constructor of the above delight, a man from a land down under is here. Sounds as though there’s a hundred thousand similar projects out there, but a fine starting point to do it yourself would be the ‘standardised papercraft’ downloadable schematics here. See two bigger pics below.

Paper & Paper Roleplaying: Witcher 2 Fun

You get given a whole lot of junk at games conferences. By junk I do mean junk – nasty pens, ill-fitting t-shirts, mysterious plastic shapes, lanyards, low-capacity flash drives, ugly posters… Most of it doesn’t live past the hotel bin. The CD Projekt RED guys, however, came up absolute trumps, combining splendid form with genuinely useful function. Rather than providing a biro and a CD-R full of screenshots, they decided to create an entire alternate Witcher game, stick it in a box, and give it to everyone who came to see the demo.

This is The Witcher 2: Papercraft Of Kings, and it’s the best press kit I’ve ever been given.
