Vehicular construct-o-sandbox Trailmakers enters early access next week

Developed by the team formerly known as Press Play (makers of the Max & The Magic Marker games and Kalimba), Trailmakers (itself formerly known as Pioneers) is yet another of those things. In fact, it’s two of them, blending the survival sandbox and physics tinker-toolset subgenres.

Flashbulb hope to offer a pleasing blend of open-world exploration and creative problem solving using whatever nuts, bolts and conveniently cuboid construction blocks you can gather, and the fruits of their labor will be available to play – albeit as a work-in-progress – this Wednesday, January 31st.

Press Play Folks Build New Studio, Vehicles In Pioneers

I think there’s a fundamental human reason why Lego is so popular. The fact is, we all just really, really like building stuff. From the looks of things, Pioneers [official site] is a game all about building stuff, and like Lego, there’s a kind of childlike charm that is drawing me to it. Pioneers is the first game from Lightbulb Games, a new studio founded by former members of Kalimba and Max & The Magic Marker studio Press Play after Microsoft shut them down alongside Lionhead.

Explore (And Die In) The New World With Pioneers

The new world! A whole new world unknown to anyone except all of the cultures who’ve lived there for millennia and all those who visited! How exciting! Pioneers [official site] is a top-down, turn-based explore-o-survive ’em up about those giddy early days of colonial exploration, with wilds to wander, survival skills to practice, and folks to recruit into a rag-tag adventuring gang. We took a peek at it back in 2013, but that was aaages ago. Creator Eigen Lenk released another free version this month, the first in over a year, so hey! Let’s look again!

Avoid Dysentery And Acquire Wealth In Pioneers

Ye olde gaming about ye olde times. Pioneers is a 16th century four-colour turn-based exploration survival RPG. It has more genres than colours. I’ll bet you couldn’t make an Unreal 4 game with four colours. The fonts alone in that engine alone need a GeForce Titan to be rendered. But I digress, which is appropriate because Pioneers is a (currently) free indie game about exploration. Which, when you think about it, are nothing but well-funded digressions.
