The RPS Electronic Wireless Show 34

Imagine if we had a better podcast logo than this one. YOU CAN'T, CAN YOU?

NO YOUR EYES DO NOT DECEIVE YOU. The Rock Paper Shotgun Electronic Wireless Show returns, and in triumphant fashion. (If you understand “triumphant” to mean, “two men with coughs chatting for 45 minutes”.) Led by the guiding hands of your tweeted remarks it’s the only discussion of PC gaming you’ll ever need! (Only as part of a PC gaming discussion controlled diet.)

RPS Electronic Wireless Show L4D2 Special

It's special.

While wandering the long, barren corridors of Valve HQ I stumbled upon Chet Faliszek and Erik Wolpaw, the two men who a few years ago made up the members of Old Man Murray. Bundling both of them into a big sack I carried them into a room packed with buzzing PCs and forced them to join in on a podcast to discuss the release of Left 4 Dead 2. You can listen to the results below.

You may have seen better logos than this one, but you were drunk.

The planets aligned. The Mayan prophecies were proven true. All four Ultimate Controllers of Rock, Paper, Shotgun gathered together in one echoey lounge to create an electronic wireless show for the ages. Led by your tweeted contributions we discuss the highest matters of the day in a manner suited by fine gentlemen.

Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising Announced

The things I do for this site.

There’s been rumours around, but it’s finally been confirmed in our old comrades at the PC Gamer* podcast. Talking about their forthcoming issue where they reveal that the first Dawn of War 2 add-on pack will feature chaos. And it’s called Chaos Rising. It’s welcome, but not exactly an enormous surprise – I thought Chaos would be one of the most-likely factions to be in the original game. There’s little more in the podcast – expect more to come when the subs copies arrive with their readers shortly.

*UK. As in, the original one. Yeah, you heard.

Down with TXT

Come the hour, come the men. Come the hour to podcast, come the three men (eventually). Quinns, Alec and Kieron gather in a (mostly) hungover state to discuss important things. You can download the file here, subscribe to it by RSS with this, or get it on iTunes from here. Hurrah! Also, you’ll find the full list of chat-topics below…

If there were a logo for the RPS podcast, this is what it would look like.

Okay, okay, you can stop the email campaign, the angry letters in the post, the furious sky writing – there’s a new podcast. Join Jim and John as they attempt to upset every listener from the young to the grumpy, while almost discussing videogames on a few occasions. Of course your Twitter questions fuel our rampant discussion, and indeed our dreadful manners.

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 28

It’s been a while since the other two have podcasted. It’s going to be a while yet. But half of the other two and Quinns have got together via the wonders of internetchat to do an electronic wireless show. You can download it here, if you are one of those direct-download sorts. You can also subscribe to it by RSS here, or get it on iTunes from here. Sound quality is a little lower than usual, with some hiss, but everything’s audible, so whining will be frowned at. Kieron will totally buy a better mike soon. Probably this one. No, really.

Topics include, Arkham Asylum, Champions, AI War and much more. The full run-list follows…

If there were a logo for the RPS podcast, this is what it would look like.

Imagine a world where there was a new Rock, Paper, Shotgun Electronic Wireless Show to listen to. Imagine harder! You made it happen! Jim and John teleported into the RPS under-sea bunker to record an episode of game-based chitter. With your tweets much frivolity occurs, in what is unquestionably the most edited podcast of all time. Plagued by knocks at the door, madmen strimming outside the window, helicopter attacks and an earthquake, a lot of fun is to be found seeing if you can spot the concealed gaps.

This is the means by which we illustrate this post.

A million hellos, and fifty welcomes to a new podcast. Jim and John (or “Jihn” as the tabloid press now call them) gathered their arms and legs together and produced a brand new audible recording. And yes, this time it is indeed audible! There’s no rational explanation found in science or myth for why the last one sounded like bad dogs, but it’s back to its usual just-about-good-enough standards. In fact, this week the audio quality is so high you can detect every microscopic creak from John’s creaky chair. This is good. No, it’s good.

In a Twitter Questions Special, the lusciously industrious pair take your queries upon themselves and proffer responses to invigorate and delight.

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 25

At least the picture is clear.

Well crap. Every few months the Podcast Gods demand a sacrifice lest they destroy the Earth, and sadly it befell this week’s podcast. Jim and John gathered in their usual stylish fashion to create a beautiful new podcast for you, created something magnificent, and then discovered after that it sounded like it had been recorded over CB radio at the bottom of a bin. There’s no rational for this. There’s no logic. Same setup as always. So, we’re putting it up, as our voices can be clearly heard, but with our sincere apologies. (Although it’s still better quality than the first few recorded on Kieron’s dictaphone, so it’s all about perspective.) Should you be a fan of the muffle you’ll hear us discuss the role of art direction in games, favourite gaming soundtracks and ponder the potential for a unified gaming platform.

It's a picture, on top of a post, all covered in writing, and smelling like toast.

What ho! A podcasting we did go. And a merry old blah blah something. Jim and John squeezed into the RPS telephone box to record a new podcast, where we not only mentioned subjects, but then went on to discuss them. Amongst that which exited our mouth was the nature of open world gaming, easter eggs in The Dig, why Bookworm Adventures was great, and what defines an MMO.

It's a picture, on top of a post, all covered in writing, and smelling like toast.

Well cor and blimey, it’s a new podcast. Sorry about the delay since the last – we all lost our feet, and then were trapped by elephants. Recovered and recompiled, Jim and John spoke out loud into a recording microphone, and now offer the result to the warm folds of your ear. Sat on John’s patio, surrounded by cats and revving engines, we soaked in the warm July sun and chatted about matters of PC importance. Matters such as the nature of previewing, Burnout Paradise, and which playground games should be made for PC.

One Life Left: Goodbye Gordon

Walker like Ste. Kieron likes Ste. Jim likes Ste. Is that the time?

One Life Left is back! Well, it was back last week, but we didn’t mention it, because we like to provoke a kind of brooding loathing between us and them, think of us the Sharks and Jets of videogame discourse. Is tragedy going to arise when Anne Scantlebury falls for Walker? Oh, it surely will. Anyway – we decide to mention it this week, because there’s a PC-related song 44 minutes into it, from the oft-amusing Doyouinverts?. It’s about Gordon Freeman of Half-life fame and you can listen to it here. If you skip forward 44 minutes, anyway. Also, in the spirit of full disclosure, here’s the mail Ste sent us…

The RPS Electronic Wireless Show Episode 21

It’s time again. Alec and Kieron, bringing unsexy back. Convening in a North London flat, supported by packets of tea and the speeches of General Patton, they strive to talk about topics of import to the PC nation. From Sims 3, to Left 4 Dead 2, to adventure games, to remixing classics to a worrying amount of time trying to psychoanalyze John Walker and an even more disturbing length of time chewing over matters sexual like four year olds. You can get it from here, see its internet page here or join iTunes here or follow on RSS here. You’ll find a full Episode breakdown below…

Left 4 Dead 2 – Podcast With Chet Faliszek

Imagine a big banner boasting Chet's name on this too.

In a world exclusive audio interview, Rock, Paper, Shotgun sat down with Valve’s project lead, Chet Faliszek, to discuss the freshly revealed Left 4 Dead 2.

Within is comprehensive coverage of the new game, the new ideas, the new weapons and campaigns and characters and Infected. You’ll find this nowhere else on the internet. It’s still a Rock, Paper, Shotgun podcast, of course, so there’s also plenty of discussion about our mums, swine flu, and Chet’s horror at John’s foul language. Chet talks not only about the new elements to the game, but also gives us some background as to why Valve chose to make a whole new game, rather than expanding upon the original. There’s also information on how this doesn’t mean L4D is forgotten.

It's a picture at the top of a post about a podcast.

Now we seem to have a website again thanks to Earth’s greatest hero, Johnathan at Positive Internet – everyone switch your hosting over to them now – we can post a podcast! Jim and John gathered, and words were exchanged. We recorded them. Now you listen to them. It’s so simple it just might work.

Podcast Promiscuousity: RPS On Joypod

KFG is a Quarter to Three running gag. I'm Kieron Fucking Gillen, for reasons to complicated to explain. It involves someone being not too bright in their defense of the Club, if I remember correctly.
You may be missing last week’s Alec/Gillen RPS Electronic Wireless Show. It’s just about possible. London transport screwed us, basically, meaning we were unable to get to Quinns house to do it before we had to cook for a crowd of young people. Alec does a mean chicken. However, if you really want to hear me yabber, last night I guest-appeared on the Joypod Podcast to talk about whatever came to mind. Subjects included the Sims 3, not being bored of games journalism, some comic stuff, why developers have reservations about forums and a lot of the usual stuff. And they continue onwards while I retire to make some tacos. Yes. You can get it from here.
