Parp parp! Project CARS 2 released

Slightly Mad Studios flashed the starting lights for their racing game Project CARS 2 [official site] yesterday, sending it roaring into the night and onto Steam. Wot I Think: Project Cars 2

Project Cars 2 [official site] threw me into so many different racing disciplines that I needed copious amounts of tea to reflect and recover. I got a taste of the game a few weeks ago and found it satisfying, but now that I’ve spent some time with the full version, due for release this week, I’m fully on board, in spite of a few significant flaws. Containing so many options and disciplines risks making it a jack of all trades, but there’s enough quality in the fundamentals to make the whole thing worth your while.

Project Cars 2 is addressing the first game’s flaws

I’ve taken some flak for how much I like the first Project Cars. No, it’s not iRacing, but iRacing also doesn’t have AI that is ready to start a race at precisely 1:33 AM on a Tuesday night, pause halfway through because the popcorn started popping and the pan needs to be jiggled, and then resume after a light snack. I’m busy, and often the last thing I want to add to my gaming is scheduling.

The first game was a solid experience with a good simulation, and it had a ton of options that allowed you to play in pretty much any way. Oh, and it was bloody beautiful. Project Cars 2 [official site] is an evolutionary step forward. It’s much the same game, but the issues present in the first are getting some serious attention paid to them, and it all really comes down to better tire physics. Read the rest of this entry »

Project Cars 2 trailer spares no thought for cold, wet cars

I worry about the cars in this new Project Cars 2 [official site] trailer. They’re out in snow, ice, and torrential rain without so much as a scarf, mac, or mittens – dressed in the same liveries as on a sunny afternoon! I appreciate that weather systems with complex consequences are a big feature in the sequel to Slightly Mad’s crowdfunded vroom ’em up but it seems irresponsible to make cars suffer just to prove a point in marketing. What, Wheelie (Really)? Project Cars 2 Announced

Now that Project Cars (I refuse to roll with that daft ‘Community Assisted Racing Simulator’ backronym) has been out for a whole six weeks, it’s time for a sequel. Yes, really.

Developers Slightly Mad Studios yesterday announced Project Cars 2 [official site], a follow-up to their 2015 race ’em up. It’ll bring new ‘loose surface’ track types, co-op career, and more. Slightly Mad are once again crowdfunding it and does this feel a bit weird to anyone else?
