Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer introduces its cowboy

Dead or alive please but not both

Howdy, etc. A new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 [official site] has been revealed by Rockstar games, showing off  a little more of the wild west and introducing protagohero Arthur Morgan. We’re not allowed to get excited about this, because it hasn’t been officially announced for the PC yet. But my gizzards are telling me you want to know anyway, just in case those rustlers up at Rockstar have the grace to indulge a quite massive chunk of potential customer Enough of this! Come see the trailer below, which features the following: guns, men, a train.

Red Dead Redemption 2 delayed into 2018

We still don’t know for sure whether open world western Red Dead Redemption 2 [official site] is coming to PC at all. But one thing we do know for sure is that it’s coming out for consoles this autu– what? Oh. Oh, I see. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming out for consoles in spring 2018, says Rockstar, embracing the delay into next year by saying that “some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.” Fair enough. They’ve also released some dusty screenshots, to soften the wound.

The RPG Scrollbars: Saving World Quests

Previously in this column, somehow not taken up by the industry as of yet, I suggested that the word ‘quest’ was being somewhat damaged of late by the fact that it can be anything from ‘Kill the Great Red Dragon’ to ‘bring me some orange juice.’ I advocated a system where instead, tasks were split between two basic categories – what used to justifiably be called ‘quests’, and the more prosaic ‘shit to do’. I realise now though that I missed an important third category, World Quests, named because scattering mostly pointless crap everywhere is much easier than actually filling an open world.

Red Dead Redemption coming to PS Now on PC

Red Dead Redemption [official site] is coming ot PC! Sort of. Rockstar’s cowboy adventure is considered by many to be their finest work, but it’s also their only game not to mosey into our town after its console release. Now that’s changing thanks to the game’s arrival on the PlayStation Now game streaming service on December 6th.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Announced, PC Not Confirmed

As expected, Rockstar have strapped on their shooting iron and saddled up to announce Red Dead Redemption 2 [official site]. 2010’s Red Dead Redemption, an open-world cowboy ’em up in the modern Grand Theft Auto style, is perhaps my favourite Rockstar game so this is splendid news.

In a disappointing but unsurprising turn, no, Rockstar haven’t said anything about a PC version yet; only console releases are confirmed. I’m not worried, mind, as it took Rockstar ages to talk about Grand Theft Auto V on Windows then we received a fine PC version – one which rarely leaves the Steam top 10. Surely it’ll come here too. Rockstar Are Teasing A Red Dead Redemption Sequel

For PC folks, Red Dead Redemption is the lost Rockstar game. It’s also the Rockstar game that people seem to love the most and that can seem like a case of absence making the heart grow fonder, given that it is sequel-less and unavailable on our platform of choice. All of that may be coming to an end.

Rumours of a remaster or sequel have been doing the rounds for a while but Rockstar’s twitter feed appears to have confirmed that something Red Dead related is due to be announced. Sequel? Remaster? Multiplayer spin-off? Whatever it is, let’s hope it comes to PC.

Red Dead Redemption Remastered Rumoured For PC

I should warn you: Ian Video Games is wearing a cowboy hat. Worse: he’s saying things like “ah fair reckon”. Someone’s filled his head with dreams of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption [official site] and ah fair reckon it’s you, The Internet. As ever with our Ian, some of what he’s spouting is tripe. No, Ian, no one has found a poster revealing a new Red Dead sequel. However, when Ian says “I tell you whut, them Rockstar varmints are cookin’ up a PC remaster of Red Dead Redemption hoo-eee doggie!” then spits a brown mouthful of ‘chaw’ (it’s toffee), well, that hasn’t been immediately disproven at least.

Rockstar Fan Q&A Points To No RDR

Answering the questions “But why no plans for Red Dead Redemption?” and “Has Rockstar abandoned the PC platform?”, Rockstar had this to say:

“We hope that with the announcement that L.A. Noire is coming to PC this fall, and the knowledge that our next big game Max Payne 3 will have a PC release (plus that we’ve released both Grand Theft Auto IV and the Episodes from Liberty City for PC), we can finally put to rest any misconceptions that we’ve ‘abandoned the PC platform’. We do know that, yes, there is just one title absent from our PC release plans – that game of course being Red Dead Redemption, and of course we’re well aware that some fans have been asking for it. All we can say is that whenever it is viable (technically, developmentally and business-wise) for us to release a game for PC (or any other particular platform) – we will and we usually do; unfortunately, that is just not the case 100% of the time for all platforms. To PC gamers, we hope that between the Grand Theft Auto titles, and the forthcoming L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3, you’ll have plenty of great Rockstar action to enjoy.”

I continue to find it baffling. RDR seems ideally suited to PC, and is a far better game than LA Noire. Oh well.
