Have You Played… Raft?

Even though it only hit Steam in 2018, and has only existed in any form since 2016, Raft feels like one of those survival games that has been in Early Access forever. That's not a criticism, it's just very much the mood the game has. It's one of those ones you'll play a bit of, forget about, and then look back a year later, only…

How Raft’s shark feeds its survival game

I have a real issue with the sea. That enormous blue conceals awful primal horrors which I can’t help but be fascinated by. So you can understand why I admire Raft, the survival game in which you try to stay alive on a rickety wooden craft constantly circled by a giant shark. That shark is Raft’s principal antagonist and it sits at the centre of many…

Indie developers affected by GDC postponement invited to apply for relief fund

Last Friday, after multiple large publishers cancelled their appearances at the event, the yearly Game Developers Conference was postponed. Originally scheduled for March 16-20 in San Francisco, the conference has been postponed to "later in the summer" due to concerns about potential spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. GDC say they will refund the cost of passes to the conference to attendees but tickets to the event…

Premature Evaluation: Raft

You’ll have heard of Raft. It’s the best open world survival crafting there is, for the singular reason that rather than having to run around to discover and excavate resources, they’re all swept towards you on a never-ending tide of stuff. Plastic, wood, leaves, potatoes. All you have to do is catch the detritus with a hook on a string and then yank it towards…

Raft’s early access is a solid and splendid survival sim

When the waves build, when the wind gathers, and the briny water sloshes over the deck of your precarious floating home, there is absolutely nothing like Raft. While the former Itch.io star shares inevitable comparisons with a few other aquatic survival sims - Stranded Deep, Subnautica, Salt - this dramatic overhaul that has recently arrived into Steam's early access is very much its own thing.…

Raft paddles into Steam Early Access, adds multiplayer

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but earlier this year Subnautica managed to stir up my appetite for survival games. Which is why I'm both interested in checking out oceanic surive 'em up Raft now that it's out on Steam Early Access, and sorry that the game's doomed to have Subnautica mentioned before it in news posts. This one's been around for yonks as a free…

Sea survival sim sandbox Raft sets sail for Steam in May

Subnautica is all well and good for some, but I prefer to keep my head above water as much as possible. As such, Redbeet Interactive's Raft is a much less stressful proposition. There may be horrible sharks trying to drag you down into the briny depths, but at least you've got your own little wooden island to retreat to, right? Previously free and exclusive to…
