Ruiner’s first patch makes cyber-life a little less ruinous

Ruiner

Grungy cyberpunk hack n’ slasher Ruiner [official site] was well-received at launch, but developers Reikon Games are still tweaking and tuning it behind the scenes. They’ve just rolled out the game’s first major patch (full notes here) since launch, with an emphasis on smoothing out some kinks in the difficulty curve, and making bullets the deadly people-killing projectiles they’re meant to be, as opposed to a poor man’s melee substitute.

Cyberpunk twin-stick psychostomp Ruiner is out now

A red room in Ruiner

The blinking red light on my e-roomba tells me there’s a message. Oh, it’s about Ruiner [official site]. The cyberpunk twin-stick shootmans is out today, sporting its cool jackets and flashing facemasks. You play an angry fella going on a psychopathic rampage to get his brother back and take down a corporation that has everyone enslaved to VR, helped by a hacker sidekick who provides narrative voiceover as you flamethrow, hammer, and shotty your way through enemies. Hang on, the vid-cockroaches are forming into a screen. It must be a launch trailer. Read the rest of this entry »

Cyberpunk shooter Ruiner dashes out next month

Ruiner

I’m quite excited about top-down shooter Ruiner [official site], what with its slow motion segments, reflex-testing dodges and cyberpunk shooty bangs. And it’s coming soon: 26 September, to be exact, developers Reikon Games and publisher Devolver Digital have announced.

You’re an “unstoppable psychopath” in a mask, and it’s your job to take down evil corporation du jour HEAVEN, whose goons have kidnapped your brother. You zip around the futuristic city of Rengkok, dashing, slicing and blasting your way through hordes of brainwashed enemies. John enjoyed the demo he played in March, so it might be worth keeping an eye on.

Hands On with cyberpunk action shooter Ruiner

I’ve had my hands on a short demo of Ruiner [official site], the top-down twin-stick action-adventure hyphen-described cyber-thriller from oh-so-naughty publishers Devolver. Not a lot of it, mind, but enough for me to form a few impressions to share. Read the rest of this entry »

Ruiner: Watch 15 Minutes Of Cyberpunk Slash-O-Shoots

Of course I was excited by the announcement of Ruiner [official site] last week. A top-down shooter with cool murders and cool dodging in a grim cyberpunk future? Mate, I’ve got blue hair and was wearing a leather jacket while I wrote that post (it was cold, okay). But can Ruiner accomplish what I cannot: have both style and substance? Have a gander at fifteen minutes of straight gameplay footage and see what you make of it:

Cyberpunk Shooter Ruiner Looks Pretty Dang Swish

Ruiner [official site] looks like the perfect game for the monstrous self-parody I affect for professional purposes. A top-down shooter with someone in a leather jacket roaming around a cyberpunk city where an incidental NPC with neon hair shaved at the sides says “every revolution has its haircut, man”? That’s me, man. This game is for me. Reikon Games have been muttering about Ruiner for a while, but today announced they’ve signed up with publishers Devolver Digital to release it in 2016. This is all celebrated with a pret-ty swish trailer full of mood, murders, and sliding:
