Mail rights advocate: Postal is open source

Isometric spree shooter Postal [official site] is now open source. Originally released back in 1997 and now old enough to see its favourite flicks at the cinema without standing on its mate’s shoulders and draping a trenchcoat over the top, Running Scissor’s debut was the Hatred of the nineties. It was also, according to the developers, one of Senator Joseph Lieberman’s “three worst things in American society”. The others were Marilyn Manson and Calvin Klein ads, which paints such a rosy picture of the America of yesteryear as compared to 2017 that I’m desperately trying to put the finishing touches on the time machine in my basement. Postal Redux Remaking Vintage Outrage Generator

The year is 203X. Every video game is in a state of constant remaking or revamping. As soon as the developers finish and release a remake, they’ll hand the game over to a team who’ll start on a revamp, who’ll hand it to another team for a full remake, who…

The year is 201X (I think?). Not every game has been remade yet. But ye olde cheeky outrage generator Postal is the latest to be, as creators Running With Scissors are remaking and expanding it with Postal Redux [official site].

Wot I Think: Postal III

I’ve been playing the oddly quietly-released latest third person action’n’ urban psychopathy game from Running With Scissors, Postal III. Needless to say, I wish I hadn’t.

I have a large tumbler full of Scotch (I know, I know, you’re supposed to use a tulip-shaped glass for the full effect, but the only Scottish person currently writing for RPS is Craig and he says “it offends me” of whisky, so I think I’m safe). I have a vaguely misanthropic attitude towards life, the universe and everything. I have a deep distrust of conventional employment. I have a low attention span. Oh look, there’s a magpie outside. It’s all black and white and… oh yes. And I have a copy of Postal III installed on my personal computer. I AM READY.

Postal III: New Footage, Little Controversy

No new screenshots in three years. Sigh.

Postal III has been a touch delayed. In development since before 2006, we first mentioned it in 2008 when it was revealed it would include a badger as a gun. A couple of months later, during 2008’s Leipzig, the most remarkable video of footage was released, with the developer apparently not too impressed with his own game. Jump forward another year, March 2009, and we had a new trailer showing some third-person action. Yet another year goes past, little is heard, and that brings us to now. Two new trailers have been released, and they are of course below.

Postal III – Even The Devs Don’t Seem Impressed

BADGER GUN! HA HA HA HA HA! Sorry guys, shark gun beat you to it, by years.

This is pretty odd. Running With Scissors gave their “world exclusive” demo of the prison breakout mission from Postal III (NSFW) at Leipzig today, but with what appears to be some sort of contempt for their own game. In the video below you can see the game running, with a peculiarly frat-boy like commentary from RWS’ Mike J.
