Honnnnnk! American Truck Simulator Demo Rolls Out

I do like Alec’s Wot I Think of American Truck Simulator [official site], capturing the calm and gentle nature of hauling goods across the western US. It’s a mundane and repetitive game, sure, and pleasant because of that. You can now have a snifter yourself, as developers SCS Software have released a demo.

American Truck Simulator Rolling Out Today, Early

Get a flask of coffee brewing, brush up on your CB slang, find an empty plastic bottle, and stop listening to me spouting rubbish. Here, you might instead enjoy these photos from inside truckers’ cabins. Or you can go on your own trucking adventure sooner than expected. American Truck Simulator [official site] was due to launch tomorrow, but developers SCS Software have decided they’ll launch it later today instead. It’ll save them from staying up super-late, see, and American Truck Simulator does teach it’s important to stay well-rested.

Nine Observations About American Truck Simulator

American Truck Simulator [official site] has quietly been one of RPS’ most-anticipated games of 2016. Its predecessor, Euro Truck Simulator 2, has been an office favourite for a while – what, at a passing glance, might seem to be incomprehensible HGV nerdery is instead a therapeutic indulgence. The open road. The refreshing lack of urgency. The sky. Choosing only the jobs that take you where you wanna go. The tranquil click-click-click of the indicators. Freedom.

Transpose that to California and Nevada – small towns, big cities, bigger deserts and even bigger skies – and the promise is irresistible. The quintessential truck driver fantasy. Can it be true? I spent a few hours on the freeway to find out.

American Truck Simulator’s Free Nevada & Arizona DLC

How handy it is to have an American on call! I’ve been phoning Hayden up in the morning (or the middle of his night, whatever), with queries like “What the hell is ‘cilantro’?” and “I’m sorry, but: a FANNY PACK?” It’s also handy to have one write about American Truck Simulator [official site] and spot basical geographical facts like: Las Vegas is definitely not in California.

Developers SCS Software had said that the initial release would only bring Cali, but they’ve now announced that Nevada (home of Las Vegas, don’t you know!) will be available at launch as free DLC, and Arizona will follow free tree.

American Truck Simulator Gets A New Tractor-Trailer

There I was, sitting on a beach sipping a strawberry daiquiri, slowly turning my blindingly pale body to a shade befitting a sun god, when I got the call. It was Graham. “Hayden, please: We need you to come out of retirement,” he said. “There’s a new-ish trailer for American Truck Simulator [official site] but none of us have known how to write it up.”

“Say no more,” I replied.

American Truck Simulator Starts Hauling In February

It’s almost here, the day the games press have dreamed of for years: the release of American Truck Simulator [official site]. I try to steer clear of press events and the games press in general but, every time I encounter those ruffians, I notice they’re even cosplaying the drive ‘em up in their everyday lives. Blue jeans, t-shirt, a checked shirt over the top, ratty sneakers… they’ve been dreaming of trucking up and down California for years. Be cool, games press. Stay calm. Don’t get over-excited and hurt yourself. Just… reach into your drawer, slowly withdraw a pen, and draw a checked circle around February 3rd, 2016.

California Dreaming: American Truck Simulator

Christmas is, of course, the time when Santa Claus comes to visit every lucky boy and girl. He does that in the form of a rosy-cheeked image, plastered across the side of a Coca Cola truck. Nothing says “goodwill to all” quite like an appropriated corporate mascot slapped on the flank of a vehicle delivering syrupy slugs of overpriced brown fizz to the masses.

There’s one truck that almost certainly won’t be driving home for Christmas though. American Truck Simulator [official site]. And that makes this the worst festive season since the time a ghost told me that nobody liked me and that an undertaker would steal the pants from my corpse.

Pimp My Ride: Euro Truck Simulator’s Cabin Accessories

I’m always fascinated how people customise things, from pencil cases to player characters – and trucks, of course. Euro Truck Simulator 2 [official site] lets folks fancy up their rigs with fancy paint jobs, but now with new DLC opens a wonderful new space to blow cash on trinkets to make you happy, adding cabin accessories.

Nodding dogs, pennants, hula dancers, laptops, handbags, ice boxes, and fluffy dice are among the treasures truckers can now fill their cabins with, and yeah, I am keen to see the scenes people create. Have a look at all this junk:

American Truck Simulator Trailer Hits Route 101

I hopped off the truck at L.A.X. with a dream and my cardigan.

I admire Euro Truck Simulator but, well, Europe’s a bit mundane. Give me endless skies, wild lands, Places From The Movies, big trees. Give me American Truck Simulator [official site]. SCS’s next trucking sim takes a whistlestop tour of the USA in a new trailer, and I dig it. Chills ran down my spine seeing a truck cross the Golden Gate Bridge out of that dreadful city and towards the trees, those beautiful trees I do so miss! It’s the landscape I most want to truck around.

Well, until SCS get the license for Mega-City One Truck Simulator.

Megalizards And Mod Manager For Euro Truck Simulator 2

Q: What is green and scaly, weighs 20 tonnes, has a fearsome roar audible a mile away, moves at up to 70km/h, and can haul a load of wood shavings from Felixstowe to Kiel in 14 hours?

A: A truck with a sweet prehistoric paintjob.

A pack of six really very swish dinoskins are now roaring around in Euro Truck Simulator 2 [official site] as a £1.59 DLC pack, which is both cheaper and more fun than Jurassic World. “NICE” I shouted in the RPS treehouse when I saw them. On top of that, developers SCS recently dropped a respectable update adding a mod manager and more.
