Desperados, Rough Riders: Secret Ponchos Is Out

My secret fashion shame is the conviction that I could pull off a poncho and cowboy hat. Clearly I couldn’t. But… maybe I could, in some kind of Wild West cyberpunk sort of… it’s a terrible idea. So I will continue to be fascinated by any game with a Wild West setting, and Secret Ponchos [official site] looks like it may be worth the attention.

Secret Ponchos is a 3v3 multiplayer top-down shooter of Wild West stereotypes throwing down, each with their own weapons and abilities. After a stretch on Steam Early Access, it’s now properly out.

The Incomplete Enchilada: Secret Ponchos Early Access

There aren’t enough games set in the Old West, whether it be Wild, Weird or Wooly. Over here in the land of PC, the absence of Red Dead Redemption is oft-lamented and the rather splendid Call of Jaurez: Gunslinger stands all but alone on the frontier in the modern era (in this instance, ‘the modern era’ is everything I can remember from the last couple of years given two minutes of thinking time). Secret Ponchos’ arrival on Early Access cheers me because it fills the gunslinging gap in my life with admirable style. It’s an isometric PvP shooter that encourages tactical play and has wonderful ricochet sound effects.

Shhh: Secret Ponchos Is Coming To PC

My look this summer shall be poncho and cowboy boots

Look at this Secret Ponchos screenshot: that poncho is anything but. There it sits, boldly in the open, flapping in the morning breeze. No, we’re told, it’s a secret. Fine, we’ll pretend we don’t see it if it makes developers Switchblade Monkeys feel better. In much the same way, we know from this tweet that the rootin’ tootin’ multiplayer shooter is clearly now coming to PC in addition to consoles but oh no, that hasn’t been formally announced, so whatever could this cryptic image mean?
