Spotlight On Biscuit- Section 8: Prejudice

Have you noticed that the alt-text on every photoshopped image is us complaining about how long it took us?

As nice as it would be to say that Rock, Paper, Shotgun is the only source of cynical, British, top-quality PC gaming journalism on the internet, we cannot, as that would involve ignoring internet phenomenon (and regular RPS commenter) Cynical Brit (aka Total Biscuit). His videos and shoutcasts routinely reach an audience of hundreds of thousands, the bastard. What to do about this? After months of plotting we calculated that bringing about his death would be unfeasibly expensive, and so we have organised a tentative alliance.

Today we present to you the first Spotlight On Biscuit, a weekly feature in which we’ll highlight the best of Total Biscuit’s videos for that week, and also spotlight an actual biscuit, just to make sure nobody reads the headline and goes home disappointed. Today we’ve got TB explaining “WTF Is…” Section 8: Prejudice, and a look at that firm favourite, the Ginger Crunch Cream.

Section 8: Sprinting, Violence, Architecture

That’s what’s in this new bit of Section 8: Prejudice footage (below) release by Timegate. It’s the map that I played the new co-op mode on in the hands-on event the other week. It’s a series of raise platforms and bunkers around a central hub, and under huge rock arches, which you plummet down between when you are entering the map. It’s quite the thing. This footage gives you a good idea of the general motoring-about that you do in battle, as well getting across the feel of the combat a bit better than previous trailers. Go take a look.

Hands On With Section 8: Prejudice

Another Section 8 game is falling from the sky, and this time it’s going to cause far more of an impact than before. Prejudice is quite the incoming object: a “5-hour” scripted single-player campaign, a 4-player co-op defence mode, and the return of the 32-player team conquest game, all for $15. Yes. That’s the starting price for this fully-fledged sci-fi combat game from a major studio. Interested? Let me tell you about it.

Section 8: Prejudice $15, Download Only

We knew battlesuit drop-pod extravaganza Section 8 was getting a sequel entitled Section 8: Prejudice with plenty of new content. What developers TimeGate have announced today is that when the title released in Q1 2011 it’ll be download-only and will cost a mere $15, which actually makes it the second download-only multiplayer FPS coming out in that quarter with that price bracket together with contemporary terrain-destruction showcase Breach. Seems more of people want a slice of the invisible pie that was revealed after Battlefield 1943 was such a hit. Mm, invisible pie. A completely awesome trailer awaits below. How awesome? Have a look, and take these protective goggles.

EDIT: Celebrating the announcement, TimeGate have put together a video re-eneacting what I guess they imagine will be everybody’s response. I can only approve of this level of positivity.

Section 8: Prejudice Multiplayer Beta Sign Up

I have to say I rather enjoyed Section 8, despite the game lacking a long term appeal. It was full of fun features, such as falling from the sky and robots smacking each other, and those things made it one of those games that it was great to arse about in for a couple of weeks, without it ever really getting its hooks in. I wasn’t sorry that I played it, but it was rather quickly forgotten, too. Anyway, it seems like Timegate haven’t forgotten about it, because there’s sequel of sorts on the way – Prejudice – and the multiplayer beta sign ups for that are now open. I’m probably going to be taking a look at this, if just to see how the original game has evolved. Also, you’ll be pleased to hear, the game is using “the enhanced Games for Windows-LIVE integration that includes streamlined matchmaking and improved server browsing.” Yaaaaaaaaay.

Just Dropping In: Section 8 – Prejudice

What is war good for? Men whose job it is to put fiery backgrounds on things.
TimeGate have released a trailer for their sequel to Section 8, Prejudice, and you can take a look at that below. Seems like they missed a trick by not calling it Section 9, but who am I to judge the naming exploits of the wider world when I work for a site called Rock, Paper, Shotgun? The trailer shows some lavish new maps, lots more thunderous robo-biff, including the big bots throwing each other about, and dudes getting stabbed. So I think we can expect more of the same only, as the trailer insinuates, it might have evolved a bit.
