The Flare Path: A Flush Of Foxers

The Flare Path turns five this week. Here in the UK that means it can no longer travel for free on funiculars, steam tinkers, or Bounding Billies, and risks prosecution if found in possession of an imaginary dog or an impish grin. Growing up sucks. Thank goodness there are occasional distractions like this compendium of word and picture puzzles. In the dappled glade beyond the break five unusually approachable foxers lounge. Tackle these solo brainteasers (co-op defoxing will return next week) within the next 48 hours and you’ve a chance of winning various top-notch wargames and sim add-ons(Competitions now closed)

The Flare Path: Topical Titbits

In the alphabetical news round-up waiting like a pre-pounce puma beyond the break ‘A’ is more likely to be for ‘airship’ or ‘angry house’ than ‘apple’. Stripy ungulates probably won’t feature in the entry for ‘Z’ but simulated Bf 110s or Mitsubishi A5Ms might. If you’ve an eye for a shapely engine nacelle or a finely chiselled turret – if you’ve an interest in the bloodier bits of history – I guarantee your curiosity will be piqued by something in the 26-compartment specimen drawer below. Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun Released

“This samurai-stuffed Pike & Shot spin-off is currently my favourite wargame of 2016,” our resident warmaster Tim Stone declared when he looked at Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun [official site] last week. Unless young Master Stone has flitted to a new warflower like a warhummingbird since then, you can now get into the same groove as our lad. That will bring you one step closer to your goal of becoming his bestie. Of becoming HIM. By which I mean Sengoku Jidai launched today.

The Flare Path: Games Of Hazard

Thanks to Slitherine’s silly no-prices-until-release-day policy I can’t tell you whether Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun, out next Thursday, will be sensibly tariffed. What I can say – but am slightly reluctant to just in case my positivity persuades the Surrey lizardmen to whack a few quid on the RRP – is that this samurai-stuffed Pike & Shot spin-off is currently my favourite wargame of 2016. The Flare Path: Topical Titbits

Q’s tail is a trip hazard. V and J often fall over in high winds. B lacks dignity*. Rain tends to collect in M and U… Many letters of the alphabet have inherent flaws but here at The Flare Path we treat all 26 with equal respect when we’re compiling one of our breathtakingly superficial alphabetical sim and wargaming news round-ups.

* It’s easily transformed into a cartoon bum.

The Flare Path: Alphabetti SPAAGhetti

The amateurs over at Wings, Wheels and Weaponry dot com arrange their sim and wargame news snippets chronologically. The weirdos at Khaki Gaming order theirs according to size. Here at Rock and Paper and Shotgun we do things as God and Samuel Johnson intended. Below the break (spoiler warning!) A reconnoitres for B, C is relieved by D, and F arrives to find all the best billets bagsied by E, D, C, B, A and J*

*J got lost in the fog, took the wrong road, and arrived three hours ahead of schedule. Read the rest of this entry »
