The 23 best VR games for PC

best-vr-games

Here they are then – the best games to play in virtual reality…and those games are “watching football,” “drinking”, “a nice cup of tea”, “fleeting emotional connection to another human being” and all those other everyday activities you believe to be real, as opposed than a simulation you have been experiencing since you first plugged your frail, mollusc-like form into a headset 19 years ago. SPOOKS!

But, should you persist in maintaining this fantasy, let’s go one level deeper and talk about the entertaining, satisfying or otherwise nifty games available for what is the current VR state-of-the-art in your imagined world: the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The rival headsets are getting on for a couple of years old now, and in that time there’s been what can feel like a ceaseless storm of new games for them. How to choose, how to choose? Well, start here. These are not the only good’uns, please understand – but they are our favourite virtual realities right now.

Jack in for chum shootyfun with Serious Sam VR co-op

Serious Sam VR [official site], the cybergoggle first-person shooter Alec declared “VR at its most stupid and most brilliant”, now has co-op. You and a pal can stand virtuaside by virtuaside waving your arms as imaginary guns, mowing down hordes of monsters. A sensible adult would suggest that you never play in the same room lest violent and terrible accidents occur but mate, come on, play it together and put a video of the ensuing brawl on YouTube for your ol’ chum Alice to see. Oculus Touch Review: The Games

I’ve already yammered about the design and capabilities of the Oculus Touch motion controller hardware itself, and now it’s time to talk software. Around 50 Touch-enabled VR games and apps launched this week – more than I can feasibly hope to look at, but I’ve been able to finger-gun and swipe and prod in enough of ’em to give you a clear sense of what this whole experience is like right now for games and software, and whether the Touch is generally a goer or not.

Also: SUPERHOT.

Serious Sam VR Is VR At Its Most Stupid & Most Brilliant

I guess I don’t feel entirely comfortable saying that a game about nothin’ but shooting restored some of my damaged faith in VR, but what the hell: yee-haw! In my fond imagining, VR was going to take me to brand new places, not strand me in the blood-strewn alleys of modern videogaming’s norm. There’s no avoiding it, though: Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope [official site] feels so damned good. This is Time Crisis steroidal and unrepentant, eschewing both gimmick and complexity in favour of finger guns and laughter.

Serious Sam VR Jacking Into Early Access This Month

As much as I think the current wave of VR is a fad, mate, even I wouldn’t down turn waving my hands as two giant ridiculous guns in Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope [official site]. Well, I wouldn’t if cybergoggles worked properly with my eyes. Anyway! Point is: the virtual reality spin-off from Croteam’s silly FPS series is coming to Steam Early Access on October 17th, publishers Devolver Digital announced today. That’s a bit later than its planned summer launch but hey, you’ll get to wave your cannonhands, yeah? Focus on what’s important.

Vee Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh! Serious Sam VR Announced

Serious Sam 4 is not at E3 this year but Los Angeles still echoes with a familiar yell of “ᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!” Y’see Croteam have announced Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope [Steam page], a cybergoggle spin-off from their monsterblasting FPS. It’s another VR wave shooter, sure, but with Serious Sam’s over-the-top action amplified by waving two motion controllers as cartoon guns.
