The Bleak Midwinter: Big Games Slip To 2010

You'll have to wait to beat that child with a pistol, sir.

It’s going to be a quieter Christmas than we were expecting. A bundle of big-name games have announced in the last few days that they’ll no longer be bulging Santa’s sack, but instead offering themselves in the colder months of 2010. This year your Christmas tree will not be towering over 2K games BioShock 2, Mafia II, nor Max Payne 3. Indeed they’re not alone. A smattering of console-only titles have also slipped, as well as Activision’s Singularity. What’s a jolly-bellied man to do this holiday season? Deliver Modern Warfare 2 an awful lot, it seems.

Fight The Signs Of Ageing, With Singularity

A glove that can de-age things. Imagine what the Loreal face-scientists could do with that. Somehow, though, this is not a piece of cosmetics technology, but an item of military hardware in the hands of the protagonist of Raven’s forthcoming shooter, Singularity. In fact, de-ageing stuff is central to the hook of the game. We all thought it was about time travelling, but that’s not the whole story. The trailer beneath the cut shows our singular hero fixing decayed cover and bring a tree back to life. Not in that Okami way, but in very much an inevitable-physics-death-for-masked-enemies way. Go see for yourself.

Time Unravels: New Singularity Trailer

Mmmm, toasty.

I’ve made one of my official decisions. Singularity is going to be good. If, for whatever reason it turns out to not be good, Raven forfeit the right to make games any more. Times are harsh, my wrath is mighty. So far the teaser output has been of a really entertaining standard. In rather good news, there’s a new trailer out, and it shows in-game footage. It’s below.

Essential? Singularity Videos Appear

Visit them before the FSB do.

We haven’t heard much of Raven’s new shooter, Singularity, since E3 last year when the first trailer appeared. Now a blaze of virally teasers are appearing, and while it’s not showing us any game footage, it’s making the thing seem damned interesting. We’ve got the latest stuff below, and they’re really good.

E3: The Trailers – Singularity

My hands can now write ‘E3: The Trailers’ before my brain sends a signal for them to do so. This scares me. I’m going to have to write something really long and self-indulgent next week to compensate for all these blinkin’ videos.

Singularity: the other new game from Raven, and the first time in a near-decade they’re not hooking an FPS onto someone else’s license. But it is, unsurprisingly, an FPS. The trailer (already mentioned in Jim’s post, but figured it was well worth highlighting separately) isn’t giving much away, though if I were to make a knee-jerk judgement – which I do about everything, especially people and types of cheese – I’d say something like ‘FEAR at sea.’ I’m probably waaaaay off, as reportedly it’s got something to do with time-travel. Timeshift at sea, then.
