Supertanks for the memories: Steve Jackson’s Ogre out now (plus some brief impressions)

I've played Ogre [official site], the Steve Jackson tabletop wargame, exactly once before, but it was many years ago, I was drunk and all I remember is a) faint outrage that the most of the units were only cardboard counters rather than lovely, heavy, spiky miniatures and b) the other guy played the titular Ogre supertank and I played the clutch of smaller tanks staring…

Steve Jackson’s Ogre rumbles onto PC in October

The video game adaption of Steve Jackson Games' wargame Ogre [official site], which is about battles between super-powered AI war machines rather than man-eating giants, is coming out on 5 October, developers Auroch Digital have announced. I haven't played the tabletop version, but a glance at the rules reference sheet tells me that one player controls a single, immensely powerful Ogre and the other tries to fend it off…

Sorcery! Part 4 is Out This September

It's been a long and winding road, but Sorcery!'s [official site] fourth and final chapter, The Crown of Kings, is out September 15 on both Windows and Mac, bringing the epic journey to a close. Well, it's coming a few years later than planned but the game is now officially announced. The adaptation is coming all hexy and turn-based in 2017 from Auroch Digital, the folks who adapted Games Workshop's Chainsaw…

Feature: NOW TURN OVER

The RPG Scrollbars: The Game Of The Gamebook

Oh, to be able to talk more about what I've been playing this week - the third part of Inkle's conversion of Steve Jackson's Sorcery! That's their exclamation mark, by the way, not mine. Unfortunately, it's not available on PC, so I can't. I can't say how ludicrously impressive it is, from the way it's converted the largely linear gamebook experience to an open world…

How To Cheat At Munchkin

You there! Have you ever played Munchkin? It's a multiplayer card game about dungeoneering, created by Fighting Fantasy co-creator the other Steve Jackson. It's enormously entertaining, primarily because it's designed almost entirely around screwing people over. It's shallow as all hell and has arguably been flogged into semi-embarrasing status by the endless slew of expansions and modifications, but it's also a great night in. Or…
