Act Opposite AI In Dinner Date Dev’s Cheongsam

Back in 2010, a young lad named Quintin got stood up by a date and spent the evening alone at his kitchen table, getting drunk and muttering to himself. Dinner Date was a curious storytelling experiment, listening in on a chap’s thought and simply having control over his restless hands to express yourself. Now creator Stout Games has announced a piece of “virtual theatre” named Cheongsam [official site], where a chap (you) and a dame (an AI) lark about in a park. Supposedly she’s a jolly clever robot, whose performance will follow physical cues of your own.

Wot I Think: Dinner Date

Is that Men's Fitness or Men's Health? The true measure of a man.

A few weeks ago I got dangerously excited upon hearing about being-stood-up-on-a-date simulator Dinner Date, from Dutch indie dev Jeroen D. Stout. As of 5:15pm today, Dinner Date will be available from the official site. I’ve finished it a couple of times now, and am proud to present Wot I Think.

Dinner Date Pre-Order Available, Interview

Is that Men's Health, at the back there?

Being-stood-up-on-a-date simulator Dinner Date is now available for pre-order, which chops the asking price from $12.45 to $9.95. If you buy two copies of the game you get a further discount, and there’s the option to have the second copy digitally gift-wrapped and sent to a friend, or partner. If you woke up this morning with a creeping sense of loneliness and self-loathing, that’d be because the full game’s released in two weeks.

If you missed my excitable first look at Dinner Date, you can read it and watch the trailer here. Excited by my excitement, Dutch developer of Dinner Date Jeroen D. Stout got in touch, and we ended up having a bit of a chat about the game, his influences, Hamlet (!) and which videogame character he’d like to have dinner with.

Stood Up, Count Down: Dinner Date

I’ve got some bad news, courtesy of GameSetWatch. In five weeks and two days, you will be stood up on a date.

In what might be the hardest sell ever, for the low-low price of $12.45 ($9.95 if you pre-order, which will be available on Nov 3rd) upcoming indie title Dinner Date will offer you the chance to “play as the subconsciousness of Julian Luxemburg, waiting for his date to arrive. You listen in on his thoughts while tapping the table, looking at the clock and eventually reluctantly starting to eat.” Thoughts and a video await you below. Hurry! They’ve been waiting so long…
