SAG-AFTRA union approves new voice actor deal

Members of the USA’s Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union (SAG-AFTRA) have voted to approve a new standard arrangement for voice actors working in video games, ending an upset that included 11 months of strikes. The strike began in October 2016 as voice actors raised issues including long recording sessions for vocally-stressful parts, bonus pay for successful games, and not even knowing what a job was or would entail when they took it. The strike didn’t cover all games, only targetting 11 specific companies, but it was notably visible for causing Life Is Strange’s Chloe to change voices between the original game and its prequel. Voice actor strike suspended as tentative agreement reached

The video game voice actor strike has been suspended after Screen Actors Guild and American Foundation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) reached a tentative agreement with the companies they were striking against. The strike started in October 2016, seeking better working conditions as well as better pay and more awareness of roles they were accepting. Perhaps the most visible consequence of the strike has been Life Is Strange’s prequel Before The Storm switching voice actor for its protagonist, but the strike has affected eleven companies and many more games. Life Is Strange: Before the Storm’s Chloe has a new voice actor, because of the strike

Gameplay snippets from Life Is Strange: Before The Storm [official site], a miniseries prequel focused on the wonderful teen melodrama’s gal pal co-star Chloe, have oozed out of E3 and- hey wait, that’s not Chloe! Turns out, she has been replaced. While Chloe’s original voice actor, Ashly Burch, is consulting on the prequel, she isn’t actually playing Chloe this time. Video Game Voice Actors To Go On Strike This Friday

It’s now looking pretty likely that the bulk of video game voice actors will be going on strike on 21st October. A long-running feud between SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild and American Foundation of Television and Radio Artists) and the video games industry seems it will come to a head at the end of this week, after nearly two years of battle. According to a bulletin posted by the joint unions, the strike will begin at midnight on the 21st unless this week’s eleventh hour negotiations can resolve things. This will see big name actors like Jennifer Hale and Wil Wheaton pursing their lips until a deal can be found.

Eden Games Go On Strike Against Atari

Eden Games – they behind Test Drive Unlimited 2 and the V-Rally series – and have had enough of their treatment from Atari, and in the face of enormous redundancies at the company and have gone on strike today. GI.biz report that in the face of sackings, the French studio has said enough, and are refusing to work. And they’ve a few choice words to explain why.
