The Quests That Got Cancelled

It's a great time for RPGs at the moment, with just about every name, flavour and celebrity from the old days finding a new lease of life through Kickstarter and a freshly hungry audience. Most series and creators though have had at least one game fall prey to development hell - sometimes with their ideas resurfacing in later titles, sometimes with everything simply lost to…

The Flare Path: Draftees And Deserters

Keeping tabs on all 238 of the world's active vehicle sim projects week in, week out is an exhausting and expensive business. Why, just yesterday an overworked FP staffer fell asleep at his post, crashing a £12,000 recon drone into The Motherland Calls' cavernous cake-hole. It would make life a lot easier for us if there was just one sim - a globe-spanning, multi-discipline jack-of-all-transport.…

Titan Falls: Blizzard Cancels Its Next MMO

We've been hearing about Titan, the next trick up Blizzard's immense sleeve, for many years now. Sci-fi-themed MMO with shooty stuff was the abiding but forever unconfirmed buzz, which did sound appealing, but perhaps such itches are being capably scratched by Planetside 2 on PC and Destiny on console. That's not the reason Blizzard have given for axing the seven-years-in-the-making project, though. The reason is…

Blizz On World Of Warcraft’s Procedural Future, Warcraft IV

By most estimates, World of Warcraft is now 17 million years old. Typically, Internet scientists carbon date it by slicing open expansion packs and counting the rings, but there is some controversy surrounding that method. One thing's certain, though: WoW's been at the top of the MMO food chain since before man invented either food or chains. Its age is starting to show, and even…

Blizzard Delays Titan To Space Year 2016, Probably Later

I'm pleased to announce that I too am developing a ground-breaking MMO called Titan. And I will be releasing it in 2034. Now invest in shares in my owners. Extraordinarily, Blizzard and their infinite wealth have just said that the much-mentioned, never-shown Titan has now been delayed until "2016 at the earliest". The suggestion is, they're retconning and starting over.

Blizzard Seek In-Game Ad Guru

The games journalism equivalent of binology involves scouring the job advertisements that developers post, seeking clues as to the content of future titles. Say Popcap were to exhibit a desire to hire a Masters degree wielding "actual unicorn-handler with three years experience of rainbow-wrangling" I would assume Peggle 2 was a glorious physical playground rather than a digital toy. That hasn't happened, but a poster…

Analyst Says Titan Will Be “Casual MMO”

Gamasutra reports that Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia claims [PDF] that Blizzard's next big MMO project, Titan, will be a "casual MMO". Now, in my head at least, "casual" is Zynga, or maybe PopCap. Games with a shallow learning curve, and limited endgame complexity. Now Blizzard games might not be ultra-badcore brainburners, but they are also not casual, and I don't expect that to change.…

Blizzard Admits “Titan” Is Real

So then. There was this leak of an internal schedule from within Blizzard, which we were a bit sceptical about and didn't bother to post. It mentioned a game called "Titan" slated for the end of 2013. Then in these VGA interviews Frank Pearce of Blizzard admits that this is the next-gen MMO, but won't say any more about it. My bet? I'm confident that…
