Bethesda’s Starfield map will be bigger than Fallout 76’s, Todd Howard says

Since Starfield was first announced, Bethesda have been pretty quiet on the details. The upcoming spacefaring RPG was revealed at E3 back in 2018 as their new next-gen singleplayer game. But now, Todd Howard has shared a few more titbits. For starters, Starfield's map will be the largest of any Bethesda RPG yet thanks to procedural generation.

Bethesda’s Todd Howard isn’t keen to remaster Morrowind

I'm getting pretty burned-out on remastered vintage videogames, partly because they're ten-a-penny now and partly because PC graphics settings and mods mean it's often straightforward to make a golden oldie look better than ever. There's one notable exception to that for me, which is Elder Scrolls series peak Morrowind. Its spindly world of shroom'n'insects'n'ash'n'gonzo weirdness is seared onto my memory forever, but in 2018 it…

Superdog: Fallout 4’s Dogmeat Can’t Die

Todd Howard has shared a lot of information about Fallout 4 [official site] so far this E3, but this latest titbit is easily the most important of the lot. Your faithful dog companion will never die. Despite the world being transformed into a nuclear wasteland, this makes Fallout 4's universe the most beautiful of all the universes.

Apparently We Won’t Hear About Fallout 4 For ‘A While’

It's incredibly odd talking to a high-profile game developer when they can tell you very nearly nothing. It's akin to squeezing lemonade from a lemon husk that's been sitting in an open garbage bin for upwards of a year. All that comes out is dust and lemon-scented whispers of "no comment." But Bethesda's case is special. The complete and total lack of any sort of Fallout…

A 105 Minute Documentary About Minecraft For No-Pennies

Minecraft: The Story Of Mojang was a 2011 crowd-funded documentary about Minecraft, featuring interviews with a host of big-name developers: Tim Schafer, Todd Howard, Chris Hecker, Peter Molyneux and some Swedish guy in a hat. Although he doesn't wear the hat much in this.General sentiment I heard was that, despite high production values and a fine roster of talking heads, it was perhaps too fluffy…

Bethesda’s Howard: People Discount Graphics

In case you haven't figured it out by now, the DICE Summit is a place where a bunch of game developers congregate to say things. Lots of things. Promising things, important things, silly things. But these sorts of events tend to have a unifying thread running through them - something that stitches all the itsy-bitsy baby things into a mighty Thingzilla. This year, though, it…

From The Bunker: The Bethesda/id Podcast

They've missed a trick not calling this Galaxy News Radio and lobbing in Three Dog soundbytes, frankly. This 22 minute chat, hopefully the first of many, features Bethesda's king Todd Howard and id's creative boss Tim Willits chatting about game design, QuakeCon and regrettable moustaches. It's... well, it's not exactly ripe with zingers and can be a bit of a tough listen, but I'm very…
