Trackmania 2 Lagoon roars out

Ah, a tropical getaway! Sun, sand, surf, and speeding through loop-de-loops into corkscrews at 300mph until you sick up your sangria. That’s the fun offered by Trackmania 2 Lagoon [official site], which launched today. The latest in Nadeo’s wonderfully silly racing series takes the tropical environment from 2016’s Trackmania Turbo and whacks it into the interconnected ecosystem of Trackmania 2, bringing new modes and whatnot too. It looks like a good time. Check out the launch trailer.

Trackmania 2 going tropical with Lagoon this month

More splendidly silly timetrial racing is coming with Trackmania 2 Lagoon [official site] on May 23rd, Ubisoft have announced. It’ll bring tropical courses to race across in a new solo campaign and a new multiplayer team mode. The taxonomy of Trackmania is endlessly confusing but I believe this is Nadeo rolling the lagoon environment of 2016’s Trackmania Turbo into the ManiaPlanet world of Trackmania 2 to share its player-made content and community features.

Ahead of Lagoon’s launch, Ubisoft have launched a big ManiaPlanet update with performance improvements and new features. Read the rest of this entry »

Trackmania Turbo Slows, Is Delayed Till Early 2016

Trackmania is a glorious thing. A joyful, sunkissed, loop-the-loop arcade racing game about incrementally learning the impossible geometry of user-made tracks until you’re able to hit their boosts, ramps, and dodge their pitfalls in a single continuous run. Trackmania Turbo [official site] was due to be released before Christmas with some new features – the most important of which is that it’s very blue and yellow now – but Ubisoft have just announced that it’s being pushed back into early 2016.

Speediest Racer: TrackMania 2: Valley Out Next Week!

Look at us, dad! Vrooom!
I know the TrackMania games are known for being speedy, but this is making a mockery of everything I know about game development, as well as the laws of time and space. It was only last Friday that TrackMania 2: Stadium was released, and now they’ve announced the release date of TrackMania 2: Valley. It is coming out on July 4th, 2013. The new addition has 65 new tracks for the new rally style handling mode, and all the building blocks you’d expect from one of their games. Just, you know, next week rather than a few months from now.

Cars Take Off: Trackmania 2 Canyon Out

CARS DON'T BEHAVE LIKE THAT

Trackmania 2 Canyon is available right now as a digital purchase straight from its very own official website. It’s the game with an obscene amount of player-controlled cars racing around thousands upon thousands of physically impossible tracks. The game uses Nadeo’s own ManiaPlanet system for updates and downloads, which is why it’s only available direct from the website. That may change but don’t count on it. As we reported previously, despite Ubisoft being the publishers they have stated that there will be no always-online DRM check. John checked exactly how the game does work offline and his findings are below, along with a launch trailer.

Trackmania 2’s “Educational” Trailer

My car would totally ghost mode your car.
What’s educational about it? Well, it teaches you about the game, I suppose. It shows you how there’s a bunch of customisation options, and how the game’s editor allows you to build elaborate race course for the cars wot go fast. Most of all though, it teaches that Trackmania is basically crazy. And that is why we love it. (It’s the bit at 1:35 which really sums up what the game is all about, I think.)

Trackmania 2 Will Not Contain UbiDRM

Cars!
We’ve just had word from the electronic beak of Ubisoft. It says: “You’ll need to register online once when you install the game. You’ll then be able to play without an online connection.” So there you have it: Trackmania 2 is free from always-on tyranny! The game is out on the 14th. I am gonna race so fast.

Anyone else got any exciting DRM news? I’m all out.
