Post-Apocalyptic Isometric RPGing: UnderRail Released

I understand we’ll have something to say about the post-apocalyptic subterranean trainworld of UnderRail [official site] after our Christmas break but, 2016 is THE FUTURE or something, for now I’ll settle for quickly telling you it’s out. It’s out! Christmas seems a good time to escape your family by diving into a strange civilisation surviving in subway tunnels and stations (and I do mean your family) with turn-based isometric RPG action, so I wanted to tell you. I’m telling you now, okay: it’s out.

Metro 20-2.5D: Underrail Alpha Available

I have to go That There London later today and I’ll no doubt find myself being propelled through underground tunnels in a metal tube packed full of people. A terrible fate, I’m sure you’ll agree, but at least the London Underground is not yet in a post-apocalyptic state. Underrail is an isometric RPG from a school so old that it might well be Plato’s Academy. Actually, not that old, more like the mid-nineties, when Fallout was Ultima with guns instead of Skyrim with guns. The surface of the planet is covered in fire and sewage, or something, so everybody lives in underground railway stations, which is becoming an increasingly common solution to the occasional apocalypse. IsoMetro: Post-Apocalyptic Turn-Based RPG Underrail

Is this the 8.15 to Luton?

John’s just been moaning that he wants a new RPG to lose himself in for hours, and so I will provide. Well, eventually. Underrail isn’t out yet – why must videogames exist before they are finished? – but if the wait for Wasteland 2 seems too torturous perhaps this could fill that turn-based, it’s the end of the world and I feel fine, hole in your life.
