Valkyria Chronicles 4 goes to war in September

Valkyria Chronicles 4

It took six blooming years for Valkyria Chronicles to appear on PC – it was worth the wait – so we should be expecting Valkyria Chronicles 4 to arrive in 2024. But no! It’s launching on PC a lot sooner than that, on September 25, the same day it releases on consoles. Well, that’s a relief. The world probably won’t be here in 2024.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 confirmed for PC too

Sega have confirmed that Valkyria Chronicles 4, the next game in their squad-based tactical RPG series set in a fantasy-tinged alternate world’s kinda-sorta-WW2, is indeed coming to PC too. Once again we’ll form a squad of BFFs, rumble along with our tank, get into all sorts of drama, and fight battles in a system that combines turn-based and real-time action. Previously Sega had only announced VC4 for console but I had expected this news, considering the original Valkyria Chronicles proved so popular when it finally got a PC release in 2014. Good, good. Spawn Point: The best JRPGs for total beginners

Tales of Symphonia

Welcome back to Spawn Point, where we take an element from the world of gaming and explain what it is, why it’s worth your time and how you can dip your toes in and get involved. Last time, Brendan gave you a 101 course in Final Fantasy XII, a JRPG that recently got spruced up for PC twelve years after its original launch on PlayStation 2. This time, however, I’m going to be looking at JRPGs as a whole, discussing what they are and which ones you should try your hand at first if you’ve never played one before.

The RPS Bargain Bucket: Help, GDC Is Here

In two days, I will be on a plane for 36 hours. I am going to be very sad. Shortly after that, I will be doing my first exhibition at PAX East. Which is alternately both terrifying and kind of amazing. (I think.) So, just a short column this week because my brain is steaming like the air vents in Alien: Isolation. But I will see all of you soon. Not next week, unfortunately. But the week after that. (Apologies for the week before. Chinese New Year is murderous.) This week’s repost plushie is from dosbox!

(Wish me luck surviving the next week.)

Wot I Think: Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles isn’t just a brilliant game, it’s a brilliant Sega game. That means something. Contemporary Sega is a multi-headed beast, doomed to forever bear the wound of its exit from the hardware market, capable of both atrocities (the recent Sonic Boom) and beauties like this. But it has until now, with the honorable exception of publishing the Total War and Football Manager series, never really been a PC developer so much as a PC porter of ambiguous distinction. Valkyria Chronicles suggests that Sega, finally, is bringing its ‘A’ game to the most important platform on the planet.

Valkyria Chronology: Tactical RPG Arriving In November

We've got spirit, yes we do! We've got spirit, how about you?

When Sega announced a PC port of Valkyria Chronicles earlier this week, all we knew was: it’s coming to PC. That’s fine news, as I’ve heard good things about the tactical RPG, but a little vague. They had a marketing plan, see, then a ratings board tipped their hand. Better a hasty announcement than the tedious “We do not comment on rumour or speculation” we often hear from publishers dodging things that are clearly happening. Anyway, now we have details. It’ll launch on November 11th, coming complete with all the DLC from PS3 at a price of £14.99 (or £13.49 if you pre-order).

Slow Blitz: Valkyria Chronicles Coming To PC

When the first footage of XCOM’s combat spread across the internet, I read several comments comparing it to Valkyria Chronicles, Sega’s tactical RPG from the distant year 2008. I only ever played the demo of the game but that will change when it finally makes its way to PC, although when exactly that will happen isn’t clear. Sega have confirmed that the port is real and that more information will be available ‘soon’, but that’s all for now. Rather than being strictly turn-based, Valkyria Chronicles uses a system called Battle of Live Tactical Zones (BLiTZ), because it’s much more rad than your grandpa’s tin soldiers.
