Aquatic Adventure Of The Last Human Surfacing Tuesday

The possibly-best part of BioShock is also the best bit of Kevin Costner’s Waterworld: gawping at a drowned city. So huzzah for The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human [official site], a Metroidvania with a submarine diving down into the ruins of our lost world. These ruins are, of course, filled with exotic and terrifying sealife I am quite keen to meet. And soon I shall, as the game’s currently psyching itself up to plunge into the Sea of Releasedness next Tuesday, January 19th. Here, have a look at this trailer:

Explore-o: Aquatic Adventure Of The Last Human Demo

I’m a sucker for self-proclaimed Metroid-vanias, especially ones with a nice pixel art, so The Aquatic Adventure of the Last Human [official site] is totally up my street [I’d meant to post about it sooner myself -ed]. As such, it’s nice to see that the game was Kickstarted successfully, raising over 60,000 Swedish Krona (£4600ish) for developers YCJY to finish the post-apocalyptic undersea project.

A demo is already available, which includes a decent chunk of ocean for you to explore and a couple of bosses to defeat.

Not Through Being Cool: Keep Walking EP

Is this cool?

What is cool? Cool is ineffable. Cool is aspirational but impossible to become. If you think you’re cool, you’re not. Someone, somewhere has surely written a thesis on what cool is, and I just know they introduce themself at parties with “You could say I’m a Doctor of Cool”. This person is a monster.

Keep Walking EP is about trying to look cool in a place where other people seem effortlessly cool. This “chill loner”, as developers YCJY call them, walks or skates down city streets, earbuds blasting music, absolutely fixated on their own reflection. You’ll need to stare too, or you’ll smash into passers-by, falling down in a shower of beer bottles, quarters, and cigarettes. Like cool people carry.
