Din’s Legacy is an RPG about mutated orcs having a terrible time

No preview images yet, so here's a sad Orc

Mutation is an under-explored idea in games, isn’t it? I know I’m inviting a flood of comments about games that do play with the idea. Those are all welcome – yup, The Binding of Issac and Nuclear Throne are both fab – but I’m struggling to think of anything that’s dealt with the long term consequences of physically evolving a body in different and potentially unwanted directions.

Or else I would be struggling if I wasn’t about to tell you about Din’s Legacy, a freshly announced action RPG from Soldak Entertainment. As the name suggests, this is a followup to Din’s Curse, an RPG with a dynamic quest system that Quinns sung the praises of back in 2011. It’s also a followup to Zombasite, which saw the same fantasy world get afflicted by a zombie apocalypse. More details await below, but I’ll tell you now: time has not been kind to the orcs.

Soldak Planning Zombasite Expansion And New Game

Soldak make interesting games, such as Din’s Curse, Depths of Peril and Zombasite [official site]. These are action-RPGs that are doing more than hack and slash – Zombasite, the most recent, is set in a world gradually being consumed by a zombie virus, in which your decisions can affect the spread of the undead threat. It launched back in August and now developer Steven Peeler has written a blog update to say he’s working on an expansion and an entirely new game. Read the rest of this entry »

Early Access Impressions: Soldak’s Zombasite

Zombasite
[official site], a living-ish world action RPG from the people behind Depths of Peril, has been in early access for a little while now, so I thought I’d take a look. Even though I just can’t shake the suspicion that it was supposed to be called ‘Zombacide.”

Elf Concerns: Soldak’s Zombasite Is Available Now

Soldak are among my favourite developers. With Din’s Curse, Drox Operative, and Depths of Peril they have three ARPGs that put the static worlds of their glossier genre-mates to shame. Quests are dynamic in a Soldak game and the world and its NPCs interact while you’re looking the other way. Fail to follow up on objectives in good time and you might find that you’ve failed a particular quest and you’ll have to live with the consequences

Zombasite [official site] is the latest game from the studio and it’s in Early Access now. I was excited to play but first impressions aren’t entirely positive.

ZRPG: Soldak’s Date With The Dead

Details are scarce at the moment but Soldak have released the first details about their next game, which will see the developer return to the world of Depths of Peril and Din’s Curse. As the headline suggests, the game will involve zombies. Lots of the rotters bringing about the collapse of civilisation, as they so often do. When the undead manage to infect even the most imaginative of indie developers, the epidemic has surely reached crisis point but I’d be surprised if Soldak didn’t come up with an intriguing treatment. Details below.
