RunMan: Race Around The World Trailer

By John Walker on September 22nd, 2009 at 8:05 pm.

Blimey, I like the look of this.

RunMan is a good name for a game. The crazed Flash scrawlings of a deranged child is an excellent graphical style for a game. Which is why I rather like the look of RunMan: Race Around the World, a game arriving on October 1st from Tom Sennett and Matt Thorson. It’s a game about doing your best. There’s little point in my trying to describe it’s frantic, lunatic nature. You can watch it for yourself.

I can’t see a thing to not like about this.

Big thanks to Stu for the tip.

There’s a really fantastic kinetic sense to that trailer, it’s reminiscent of the old (good) Sonic games only more so. I can’t tell from the web site, is this going to be a browser thing or a commercial indie release?

It looks like The Cheat made it which is something more games should look like.

Thank you. I knew this reminded me of homestarrunner.com but I couldn’t figure out why. Clearly it’s been too long since I’ve visited, time to go check the sbemail.

Games as art! Mostly just in the sense that just watching that made me very happy.

They’d better have that kind of music in the game, it suits it perfectly!

I thought I’d had my fill of quirky indie games today. Turns out I just hadn’t seen that.

RE: the happy happy joy joy-ness of the whole thing – agreed

The visuals slightly remind me of Enviro-Bear. I’m looking forward to checking it out immensely.

I’m sure I’ve played this before – wasn’t a previous version starring the running man and the big green chomper put on the PC Gamer discs once?

They need to make sure they pay licensing fees to Microsoft to use Paint as their game engine. Full-screen aliasing! Lossy texture compression! Motion blurb! Pixels 3.0!

Looks fun, though. Hope it’s not too reflex-punishing, so my kids can also enjoy it.

looks like the mechanics of Mario + Sonic in one game, rendered by a child. These are all positives!

A little concerned that there might be some readability issues, I couldn’t quite tell what was foreground and background at times in the video, a problem which hampered that Icycle bike game too in my opinion. Hopefully it won’t be an issue when we’re allowed to get our hands on it because it certainly looks fun!

Runman makes me happy. The sound effects/style/music remind me a lot of Yoshi’s Island, but it’s way faster than that.
