Gee Thanks, Dad: Layers Of Fear's Inheritance DLC

Thanks for the crud

First-person spooker Layers of Fear [official site] will receive an expansion in August, developers Bloober Team have announced. Named 'Inheritance', it'll return to that mad painter's house to poke around from his daughter's perspective. The original game pulls some jolly clever tricks shifting between reality and artistic visions, so it'll be interesting to see what awaits his daughter - and how that looks.

Bloober explain that Inheritance "tells the story of the painter’s daughter coming back to her childhood home to face her past. Can she forgive her father, or will she resent all that has happened? Relive her experiences and witness the full scope of the tragedy that has swallowed up the family." Ah yeah, the past can be a git all right. Here, get a glimpse in the DLC's announcement trailer:

Oh good, you get to go babyish. Inheritance will cost $4.99 when it arrives for Windows, Mac, and Linux on August 2nd.

I wonder if this'll be one of those DLCs which addresses criticisms levelled at the original game. Our Adam, for example, in his Wot I Think said, "Layers of Fear is an effective scare ‘em up but the sense of dislocation and the lack of character development left me feeling as if I’d enjoyed a thematically messy series of shocks rather than a cohesive horror story."

If you are curious, Layer of Fear is half-price in the Steam Summer Sale, down to £7.49/9,99€/$9.99.

Bloober Team are also working on a brand new game, a sinister cyberpunk spookyfest. They announced it during E3 in June, so do have a look if you haven't yet.
