Fortnite’s Creative Mode is getting an Unreal upgrade next year

Epic Games are the Fortnite company, sure. But on the developer side of things, they're the Unreal Engine company - and while Fortnite is obviously made using that base, the two rarely overlapped if you weren't actively employed to work on the battle royale. Next year, however, Fortnite players will be able to spice up their creative maps with custom models, bespoke scripts and editable…

Left 4 Dead-alike Back 4 Blood shambles into closed alpha

I'm sure we all have our fond memories of playing through Left 4 Dead and its brilliant sequel. But fun as they are, there's no hiding the pair are getting on a bit, and it's time enough something stepped in to carry on that co-op carnage*. Fortunately, Turtle Rock's own Back 4 Blood entered closed alpha today, and while it's not Left 4 Dead 3…

Spotify is now on the Epic Games Store, for some reason

Wait, what? Epic have made some rather bold moves since setting up their own storefront - chasing exclusives by the dozen, firing at Steam with aggressively dev-friendly revenue shares, using Fortnite to take trillion-dollar tech companies to court. Now, they're branching out of the games bubble, adding monolithic music streaming service Spotify to their platform earlier today. No, really. It's right there, just below Hyper…

Microsoft Flight Sim will let it snow in next week’s free update

Microsoft Flight Simulator features some absolutely stunning weather. But as far as the ground's concerned it's always the height of summer, with even the northernmost parts of Scandinavia left remarkably snow-free. That changes with next Tuesday's free update, which adds a sprinkling of snow, ice, and virtual reality goggles to the planet-sized flight 'em up.

Lofty city-builder Airborne Kingdom takes flight today

They might make a mess of tramlines and festivals, but at least I don't have to trust Edinburgh City Council with keeping the town from falling out of the sky. Spare a thought, then, for the citizens of Airborne Kingdom's skyward metropolis, who have you to thank for keeping their livelihoods safe above the clouds. The Wandering Band's lofty city-builder took flight today, a floating…

There's just over a week to go 'til giftsmas day - and while I'm sure we're all panicking over what to get our friends, loved ones and recurring villains, what's the harm in picking up a little treat for yourself? The Epic Games Store's holiday sale begins today, giving away a new free game for the next 15 days alongside the usual slew of store-wide…

Cyberpunk 2077 has too many dildos, will patch some of them out

Unlike the rest of the treehouse, I haven't been playing that Cyberpunk 2077. Even still, I've already heard from many folks that the game is absolutely overflowing with dildos, phallic sex toys of all shapes and sizes erupting from every cyber-nook and hacker-cranny across Night City's urban futurescape. Well, it seems even CD Project may admit it's all a bit much, with the developers planning…

The Anything Gallery is a museum of whatever you want it to be

Look, I've covered a lot of videogame museums in my time with RPS. It's fitting, then, that I'd eventually cover a virtual art gallery of literally everything. Released for free this weekend, The Anything Gallery is exactly that - an exhibition of anything you want, curating from any phrase you enter before its wings skew off into weird and wild tangents stretching infinitely in every…

Overwatch dresses up for another round of Winter Wonderland

As much a part of the season as indoor trees and mysterious boxes, Overwatch's annual Winter Wonderland has rolled back in for another year. 2020's edition of Christmas in Blizzardland introduces new 4v4 freeze-tag brawl "Freezethaw Elimination", brings back limited modes from the ghosts of Overwatch past, and once again adds a bundle of wonderfully strange festive outfits for our far-future superfriends.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout defrosts its third season today

The weather outside is frightful, and it's not looking much better in the bumbling stumbling world of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Mediatonic's wobble royale has entered its chilly third season, Winter Knockout, bringing in a blurry on seasonal new stages, suitably cosy new cosmetics, and - as an extra treat for us PC folks - the arrival of private lobbies that'll let you tumble through…

EA Play will now become part of Xbox Game Pass for PC next year

All of EA Play's games on Xbox Game Pass would've made for one hell of a Christmas present, sure. But while today was meant to be the big day, it looks like it'll be a couple more months before EA's catalogue is rolled into Microsoft's already-generous subscription service. Xbox today announced that it'll be 2021 before The Sims, Battlefield, Dragon Age and friends become part…

Fortnite’s new “performance mode” hopes to double framerates on older hardware

For being the biggest game of the past decade, Fortnite's system requirements aren't exactly generous. Okay, yes, it'll run on phones and the Switch, but my ratty old laptop still struggles with it, which is why I'm actually excited by the game's experimental new "performance" mode, which hopes to improve framerates for folks who are already scraping the lowest graphics sliders.

Screenshot Saturday Sundays: Setting sail for uncharted worlds

Screenshot Saturday Sundays! Batten the hatches, fill those hot water bottles and prepare to hunker down for the winter, readers. But before I vanish under fifteen layers of bedsheets, I reckon there's time enough for one last roundup of Saturday's screenshots this Sunday. This week: Pulpy space pirates, throwback online worlds, unfinished maps and unsettling sneaking.

CD Projekt won’t hold dev bonuses hostage behind Cyberpunk 2077 review scores

Cyberpunk 2077's creators evidently had high hopes for their sprawling Keanu-toting RPG. But with the game lander rougher (read: buggier) than expected, CD Projekt executives have reportedly chosen to rethink their bonus structure, promising to pay developers their full share of their bonuses regardless of how well Cyberpunk reviews - even if, y'know, gating employee bonuses behind extremely high performance expectations is the sort of…

Alba: A Wildlife Adventure’s sun-soaked holiday is out now

Even a winter gremlin like myself does, occasionally, miss the sun. Fortunately, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure is offering an unseasonable dose of vitamin D with its nostalgic summer holiday. Released this week, Ustwo's latest is a sweet little island holiday filled with bird-spotting, activism, and restoring some life to this knackered old coastal town. Just mind you pack your sunscreen, kid.

The B-Wing and TIE Defender have landed in Star Wars: Squadrons

So what does the B stand for anyway? Bomber? Best? Blurst? Because I'm looking at the ship right now, and that doesn't look like any B I've ever seen. Semantics aside, the topsy-turvy heavy bomber has finally arrived in a free update to Star Wars: Squadrons alongside the TIE Defender, an Imperial fighter that looks like someone glued an extra pair of wings onto the…

Pacifist hits World Of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ level cap by picking flowers

World Of Warcraft's best story doesn't concern old gods, banshee queens or gruff orc heroes. Rather, it involves one panda's stubborn determination to drop the "War" from "Warcraft". Having not once picked up a sword, left the starting zone or even pledged allegiance to the Alliance or Horde, WoW player DoubleAgent has now hit the Shadowlands level cap doing nought but pick flowers for eighteen…

Familiars packs a full-featured Pokemon clone into a single Tweet

When you spend half your day glued to Twitter, you get used to the occasional double- or triple-take. But I don't think anything's ever made me stop and shout as much as stumbling upon Familiars - a browser-based monster-catching MMO that developer Loam has somehow managed to cram into a video embed, letting you embark on an honest-to-god online RPG without ever leaving Twitter.

The Epic Games Store is giving out daily free games, starting next week

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... well, I don't know, it's still only December 10th. And while I certainly wouldn't consider a corporate storefront my true love, it looks like the Epic Games Store may also have a dozen or so presents to leave under the tree. Starting next Thursday, Epic will give out a new free gift every…

Want to stream Cyberpunk 2077? Better turn down those tunes

Turn down those funky beats, cyberstreamers. In the run-up to launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was lauded for a DMCA-safe music mode that'd make the game safe to stream in an increasingly hostile copyright environment. On release, it looked like a song or two had slipped the cracks, but now the devs reckon more than a few troublesome tune ended up in that "safe" mode - recommending…
