Call of Duty: WW2 recruits Doctor Who for Nazi Zombies

Actors including David Tennant (Ian Whom PhD), Elodie Yung (Electro), Katheryn Winnick (Ribs), Ving Rhames (Quentin Tarantino’s A True Story), and Udo Kier (Disturbia) are lending their voices to characters in the cooperative Nazi Zombies mode of Call of Duty: WW2 [official site], Activision announce. I’m sure they’re fine actors but the next CoD: Infinite Warfare zombie DLC has Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and I know which I find more exciting. Anyway, this announcement trailer fresh from San Diego Comic-Con shows some of the shambling horrors we’ll gun down with our chums:

The story this time around is that our heroes have gone to a Bavarian village to recover stolen art, only to find that some naughty Nazi has made a load of zombies. As ever, players will shoot them to pieces together.

“With Nazi Zombies, we’re creating a frightening world full of terrifying characters and events that will make you jump and look over your shoulder,” Sledgehammer Games co-founder Glen Schofield said in the announcement. “There’s an incredible amount of myth and lore, which our team has poured through in our development.”

“This is unlike anything before, we’re taking players to some very dark, grim places in Nazi Zombies. This is one hell of a horror experience.”

By which he means they’ve replaced a zombie’s arm with a mace.

Call of Duty: WW2 is due on November 3rd.

Next time Activision go on about Call of Duty: WWII being “authentic” and “honest” (words they have used before) as if they’re making the game as a digital wreath to lay at a war memorial, remember that they’re turning genocidal human experiments into a kooky game mode about zombies.

I can’t tell whether the quoted announcement is something Ms. Alice blatantly made up to take the piss about marketing clichés, or an actual quote.

Though, given it’s CoD, it’s prolly an actual quote… :-\

what because the actual reality of WW2 wasnt dark or grim enough you have to invent more zombies. the nazi human experimentation was horrific enough , you dont have to invent zombies to make it more horrific just make the game factual so people actually take away something from the horror of war

But that would interfere with making Americans the epic heroes running in winning the war without casualties!

This has got to be the least unique trailer in game history.

I’ve nothing against Call of Duty, they’re mechanically decent man-shooters (If WAY to iterative to pick up the new one every year), but how is the ‘reveal’ of a zombie mode news worthy? Don’t they all have that?

I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know if im missing something

I didn’t even know Infinite Warfare had them. I thought there was two ”different” CoD’s, one with zombies (the Black Ops ones) and one without (the Modern Warfare ones).

Guess it’s been a long time since I fell off that wagon.

Zombies is always my least favourite thing in CoD. Stuff like MW3’s Spec Ops mode is the kind of coop I want, not wave based survival.

    • that_guy_strife says:

Oh wow that brings back memories … and also yes ! Coop setpieces. It’s a wonder they didn’t keep implementing those.

For the sake of historical authenticity, I would like to point out that the world’s first first person shooter, Wolfenstein 3D, introduced nazi zombies in it’s second chapter.

This is Udo’s first game since RA2 right? Love his voice.

Nice to see Activision treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves

The stuff about drum beats and progress etc sounds familiar – is it a quote from somewhere?

Oh come on. It’s zombies. Nazi zombies. If you’re trying to explain and justify nazi zombies, you doing it wrong.

Crossing one evil thing with another evil thing does not automatically make the result multiplicatively more evil.
