When Insects Attack: Earth Defense Force 4.1 Out On PC

Stomp those space-bugs

To save our Mother Earth from any alien attack,
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back,
We'll unleash all our forces! We won't cut them any slack!
The EDF deploys!

Which is to say that Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair [official site] is out now on Steam. These space-bugs won't kill themselves, so hop to it.

EDF is a game about shooting a great many giant alien insects and arachnids and robots and UFOs until they explode. If that's what you want (and why shouldn't you?) then EDF does that better than almost any other. It also supports co-op, and larking about with your mates is usually enough to overcome any tedium that might creep in.

This particular EDF game was initially released in the west as Earth Defense Force 2025 on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2014 but this release has the awfully grand name of Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair. We are so very lucky here on PC, I know. EDF41TSOND is basically 2025 with fancier graphics, extra missions, extra weapons, a few tweaks to older missions, and so on.

A launch discount brings EDF 4.1 down to £20.99/32,19€/$34.99 on Steam until July 25th. Also on sale is its large amount of DLC. Maybe you want to buy guns with cool names like Blood Storm, drive a tank with a sweet anime maid airbrush job, or deploy eerie maid decoy balloons.

I'm into the idea of this game existing within the world of EDF as a safe simulation of actual real battles against alien insects, for the purposes of this trailer at least:
