Emily Is Away Too logging on May 26th

OH NO, MEMORIES

The notsequel to neat-o instant messenger drama Emily Is Away will pop up on May 26th, developer Kyle Seeley has announced. Emily Is Away Too [official site] will tell a new interactive story through notAOL Instant Messenger windows, and this time through notYouTube and notFacebook too. Here, have a peek in this trailer:

Seeley says about this notsequel:

"Message both Emily and Evelyn as you determine the outcome of your senior year. Extend the story past the chat window with YouTube links, Facebook profiles and file transfers. And most importantly, change your text color to lime green so everyone knows you're the coolest kid in school."

And here's a chunk of what Brendy thought about the original Emily Is Away.

"It's a game of passive aggressiveness, reading into things and admiring the Windows XP throwbacks. But the best touch is a small one. Whenever you type your 'messages' sometimes they quickly delete and edit themselves, as your own character self-censors their feelings. At one point "you're my best friend" tellingly becomes "you're one of my best friends". It reminded me both of the lo-fi feel of Digital: A Love Story and the text messaging system from Catholic-guilt-simulator Catherine. Which are not bad games to be compared to."

You'll notice I'm quoting heavily in this post, which is because I can barely look at screenshots of the Emily games without crying "OH GOD" remembering my own AOL Instant Messenger teenage dramas.

Emily Is Away Too will cost $4.99. It's coming to Windows, Mac, and Linux via Steam and Itch.

The original game is still free on Steam and pay-what-you-want on Itch.
