Generate simple planets with Planetoids tool
World building
Hooray! I've been keeping an eye on Tom Betts' Twitter account to see whether Planetoids [Itch.io page] - his planet generation tool - would make it onto the internet instead of just providing lovely screenshots. It has! All praise ProcJam for giving me things to play with.
It's a tool rather than a game and some of the shapes it spits out are more pleasing than others, but I like using the random button and just seeing what turns up. Some of the planetoids look like microscope visions of viruses but without the symmetry some of those offer, while others do look more like an object a space telescope could pick up.
It's small but charming. Here are some of Tom's creations:
[Disclosure: Tom works with Jim "formerly of this parish but we've forgotten what he looks like and almost managed to clear all his stuff out of the treehouse fridge except for that thing which used to be salsa but now growls and enjoys Sudoku" Rossignol developing games as part of Big Robot as well as creating his own projects.]
