Tikipod's twin-stick shooter Iron Crypticle out next week

From the Aqua Kitty devs

There's a new 8-bit twin-stick shooter coming out on PC next week called Iron Crypticle [official site]. Why should you care? Well two reasons: first, the trailer shows suitably frantic action and some funky, eerie music that puts me in mind of Castlevania's tunes. And secondly, because it's from Tikipod, who have already put out two solid arcade games.

They made both Aqua Kitty - Milk Mine Defender and Rock Boshers DX, two games I've never actually played before, but I've been told they're decent, and they both have good reviews on Steam.

Tikipod have worked on some other better-known titles, such as Stealth Bastard, for which they designed the excellent artwork and animations. That one I have played, and poured a good couple of weeks into.

Here's that trailer I was talking about, showing our hero cutting down waves and waves of enemies with his exploding atomic fist. Where can I get one of them?

The premise is that a "a mysterious, malevolent force" has abducted Cryptonia's princess and stolen a good chunk of treasure. It's your job to retrieve it. You can play it solo or with up to three other players in local co-op.

Judging by the trailer it's got some top-down bits and some side-scrolling bits, which could inject a bit of variety.

Here's what Tikipod have to say:

"To survive past the Guardians of each floor, you'll need to upgrade your abilities! Speed, Damage, Fire Rate and Weapon Duration can all be upgraded either from shops or through careful chaining of food pickups. Most enemies drop a food item (cake, sweets, fast-food, fruit...). You must try to balance chain-collecting these, against fighting off the hordes of enemies.

"Route selection is very important too, with each floor made up of a branching system of different rooms. Each room type has their advantages and disadvantages - plus with each playthrough the rooms all shift about and reform, just to keep you on your toes!"

It's out on Wednesday, July 12th on Steam.
