Welcome To The Cyberscraper: The Tallest Building

Top of the world

Isometric cyber-battles atop The Tallest Building. The sky is a tumbling digital waterfall, plunged through with geometric whorls and eddies. Twenty waves of enemies await the warrior foolhardy enough to reach for the Neurocyber Crown, which hangs above the skyscraper. I don't think there's anything I want more than a Neurocyber Crown, even though I'm not sure what it is or what it does. I assume it has a regal appearance concealing a number of wires that snake into the wearer's thought-meat. To seize it, the player must battle with sword, shield, pistol and rocket launcher in this challenging free browser game.

The Tallest Building was created as part of the Cyberpunk Jam, for which entries are closing in the very near future. Indiegames.com picked this game out and it's easy to see why. The art is clean and attractive, and the single-screen combat requires positional awareness as well as quick-witted use of the shield to absorb blows and deflect bullets.

I haven't managed to retrieve the Crown yet. There's a difficulty spike during the fifth wave but the game does create a checkpoint (for one session only) after every fifth stage, and overcoming the odds isn't quite as tough as it seems once methods of crowd control have been devised. It took me a while to realise that the special move, activated by attacking while the shield is raised, is best used to drive back groups of enemies, creating separation.

Scrolling through the Cyberpunk Jam entries is pleasing. Do share your own findings if you look deeper - I'm going to dig through tonight.
