Snapchat Probably Teasing Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3

Call of Snapchat

Ah good, it's time to start talking about Next Call Of Duty and how it's probably going to be Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 because a Snapchat campaign - yes Snapchat, shut up - implies as much.

While streaming some Black Ops 2, YouTuber Drift0r picked up on the addition of one of those QR code ghost things Snapchat introduced so you can befriend #brands and #engage with their #content easily.

"I have a feeling this is going to be like a viral marketing campaign," he notes on the video. "Like in a couple of days if you follow the little ghosty you will get a picture of Black Ops 3 tweeted out or Snapchatted out? I don't really Snapchat so I don't know how that works."

He was right.

And, lo, Snapchats did start appearing.

They're these grainy, washed-out snippets which are set up like relaxation or therapy videos but gradually interspersed with subtle Call of Duty touches like, y'know, A HELICOPTER AND DRIPPING BLOOD AND SOLDIERS. It's still at the cryptic stage, is what I'm trying to say. The cryptic stage where it's Call of Duty announcement season, it's Black Ops series developer Treyarch's turn to produce something and the viral marketing campaign is rooted in Black Ops 2.

Here's one so you can see what I mean:

Pre-announcement Call of Duty hype feels like the Activision marketing department is nursing a swollen abdomen, keeps disappearing to be sick and has Snapchatted you several positive pregnancy tests yet if you ask them when the baby's due and if they've thought about names they get all defensive and say they don't know what you're talking about.

I guess on the plus side a second person might start Snapchatting me now. Leigh Alexander and Brendy Caldwell have both cut me off because apparently it's not okay to just enjoy other people's Snapchats. The only person I have left is my friend Matt who uses it to tell people how moving house is going. Perhaps I need #brands. #brands will never be sad that I just consumed their #content.
