Have You Played... 140?

A music-driven platformer

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.

I forgot I'd played 140, despite having reviewed it. I'd like to remind myself though, because it's a smart music-infused platformer.

Like so many platformers, you're a simple geometric shape: a square when you're stationary; a circle when you're moving; a triangle when you're jumping. The rest of the world is similarly made of geometric shapes, but ones that pop, pulse and fizz along to the electronic music that underscores the world.

This is visually striking, adding movement and buzzing static to 140's colourful world, but it also provides directions for your navigation of that world. Platforms pop in and out of existence to the beat, for example, allowing you to correctly traverse them even when you need to jump before your target is visible.

If you've an hour to spare, 140 is a pleasant way to spend it.
