Sonic-y, DKC-ish Mekazoo Rolls Out Next Week
No Echidnas in the line-up, though.
Mekazoo [official site] is an homage to 90's platformers, looking to draw from games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Donkey Kong Country. It offers five different mekanimals for you to control, and emphasizes momentum and tight controls. There's also a "hive-mind" co-op mode, in which you and a friend each control an animal, but only one player can play at any given time. What are "mekanimals?" I suppose you'll have to play to find out. You won't have long to wait, as developers The Good Mood Creators this week announced a release date: November 15th.
You can ascertain from the trailer that each mekanimal has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, so you may choose the armadillo for its high ground speed, but to get to higher ground you might have to let your friend controlling the pelican take over. Yes, there are pelicans and armadillos. That's an interesting mixture of animals. I'm sorry, "mekanimals." And yes, it supports local co-op.
The game is projected to take about 10-15 hours to complete and has an original jazzy soundtrack and vibrant neon color scheme that gives it a feel all of its own. You can get your hands on Mekazoo from Steam on Tuesday, November 15. Oh! I get it! "Mekazoo" is like a menagerie of "mekanimals." I like that word.
