Long lives the Queen

Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is out tomorrow. It’s the card-game-with-walky-bits set among the swamp hags and mages of The Witcher 3. It’s a long adventure, far longer than it ought to be. I’m 30 hours into the story of Meve, the dethroned warrior queen who needs to scramble back to power. At this point it starts to drag. Battles are becoming samey. Puzzles, once challenging, have become tongue-in-cheek mock-ups of Bejeweled or Snake, using cards instead of pixels and fruit. The whole game is running out of breath. That I can forgive. What disappoints me is that Queen Meve is still alive.
