Retroh No! Yooka-Laylee Delayed Into 2017

Kickstarter mega-hit delayed

Yooka-Laylee [official site] raised over £2 million on Kickstarter in 2015 for the dream of a new '90s-style 3D platformer made by a team including folks who worked on Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. Playtonic Games hoped at the time that they'd release the game in October 2016, but the makers today announced it'll be a little late. A new trailer reveals the game's due in early 2017 but hey, the trailer also shows more of the game in motion. If you've waited a decade for the nineties to return, what difference does a few more months make?

Playtonic explain in a blog post that, "after long consideration and knowing through dialogue with our fans that they value quality and polish above all", they've decided to delay Yooka-Laylee's launch until early 2017. It's now slated to arrive some time before the end of March.

"While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally projected in our Kickstarter, the Playtonic team has decided that it would prefer to add a few extra months' polish to the game schedule," they say.

The toybox prototype for Kickstarter backers is still due in July, mind.

Here's how the game looks now, in its E3 trailer (yes, it's already E3 trailer time):
