The Walking Dead: Season 3 To Revisit Clem, Comics

The Walking Dead: Michonne [official site], a miniseries in Telltale’s episodic choose-your-own-disaster line, wraps up today with the release of its third episode. This closes a gap in the comic book story, a point where Michonne had vanished off for a few issues. And Telltale will be dipping into the comic book world a bit more, according to comic creator Robert Kirkman. He’s opened up a wee bit about Season Three of Telltale’s The Walking Dead, which is due this year, and will once again visit Clementine.

In a promo video interview for TWD: Michonne, Kirkman explained that “the books that are coming out now are roughly in the same timeframe that Season 3 will be in.” So, yeah, they’ll cross over a bit. He explained a bit of what to expect:

“We’ll be checking in on Clementine again, so we’ll be seeing her, we’ll be seeing where she’s at and what’s going on with her, which is going to be great. But also I think, similar to the Michonne series, I think there will probably be some more comic book elements that’ll be working in some interesting ways. I don’t want to reveal too much, but it’ll definitely go hand-in-hand with the comics a little bit more than Season Two did.”

Here’s the whole video, which also gabs a load about The Walking Dead: Michonne:

And hey, here’s a trailer for the finale of The Walking Dead: Michonne:

How’ve you found the miniseries anyway? Are more comic book cross-overs desirable or is it better doing its own thing?

The Walking Dead games is so much better than the TV show. A lot more emotion involved and I can’t wait to see Clementine.

Luckily this is fake, eh? I’ve been reading this Zombie Apocalypse survival guide. At least I know I’ll be safe when the world ends. Good luck out there everyone.

I really wish they would leave Clem’s story alone. No matter what ending a player chose for season 2 I felt like it ended Clem’s plotline satisfactorily, revisiting her later would just completely invalidate choices the player made for no reason.

*Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 2*

I agree with your assessment of Season 2’s conclusion. At this point, the only way they could continue Clementine’s story without invalidating player choice would be to push the timeline forward significantly and have Clementine traveling on her own*, or with a new character/group of characters**. They could pay lip service to your decisions in the previous season with throwaway lines of dialogue or character cameos reflecting who you aligned yourself with (similar to Kenny’s appearance in Season 2).

It’s far from ideal, but it’s definitely possible. Should they do it, though? Probably not. But this series has proven it has legs, both commercially and critically, so they’re going to milk Clem’s story for all it’s worth (unfortunately).

      * Retreading familiar ground covered in Season 2.

**Also attempted, with mixed results, in Season 2.
