Community Conquers: C&C Online Salvages Multiplayer

Free multiplayer support for five C&C games

The Command and Conquer franchise is almost twenty years old and it may already be on its last legs. The free-to-play Generals 2 had been rebranded as simply 'Command & Conquer' when EA decided to pull the plug and it's all been quiet on the (formerly) Westwood front since then. Indeed, the cries of havoc and unleashing of time travelling, Tesla-faced dogs of war were almost silenced for good when multiplayer support vanished as part of the GameSpy cull. The community has stepped in though, with free servers for the five C&C games affected.

C&C: Online is a service platform that replaces the GameSpy platform, with the basics already in place and more to come. Revora is carrying out the bulk of the work and there's a short video explaining how it all works, and how you can connect.

C&C:Online is a community-made- and managed online server for Generals, Zero Hour, C&C 3, Kane's Wrath, and Red Alert 3, allowing you to log in and continue playing online just like you could when GameSpy's servers were still online.

Playing on our server is absolutely free, but donations to our server are always welcome and needed. Your donations go directly towards server maintenance and improvements to the C&C:Online infrastructure.

Bungie dropped GameSpy with a patch, Relic's Warhammer 40K games evaded destruction, and the likes of Arma, Civ(s) and Borderlands were relocated. C&C required a save from the community though and it looks like they've come through. Will nobody step in to save James Bond: Nightfire though?
