Bam! Bif! Pow! LEGO Marvel's Avengers Out Today

EVERYTHING IS OK, OKAY?

I'm not trying to give Warner Bros. horrible ideas but: I'm surprised that the LEGO games haven't taken the Skylanders and Amiibo approach and started selling plastic LEGOfolk to unlock their virtual counterparts. That's not... please don't do that. I'm just surprised that LEGO Marvel's Avengers [official site] is out today boasting of having "over 100 new characters that have not appeared in a LEGO videogame before" without charging extra for them. That could be a good £300 of plastic. Of which I could take a cut as a consultant. Dear god, please someone stop me. Dare me to stuff 17 marshmallows into my gob, cosh me, hold my head underwater, fill me with ravenous rats - anything to stop me from HEY IAN BROS. LISTEN UP I'VE GOT A GREAT IDE

Pip: Hello. It's Pip. Alice is currently indisposed and won't be able to finish this news post. She's fine. Definitely not oozing or moaning.

ANYWAY! A trailer for LEGO Marvel's Avengers, eh? Golly gosh that seems exciting. Shall we take a look?

Watch on YouTube

You'll have to bear with me as remembering what happened in the Avengers movies is not my strong suit and I'm not 100% sure whether the pig is an Avenger or not. Let's see.

So the game itself will include story content from Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3. Age of Ultron seems to get primacy though, in the trailer at least.

I have absolutely no idea who or what the evil guy with the red face is so I'm going to look that up.

"The leader of the secret criminal organization HYDRA and Captain America’s arch-enemy, the Red Skull stole a suit of Iron Man armor and became the armored villain known as the Iron Skull. With his already enhanced strength increased by the armor’s weapons and technology, he is a formidable foe to the Avengers and the entire world."

Hail Hydra, I guess?

Anyway, it's out now (£24.99 on Steam etc etc and with a £7.99 DLC season pass). The DLC offers more new characters (don't tell Alice), a few extra levels and "exclusive access to The Avengers Explorer Character Pack" but I don't know what that is so stop asking.

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to find somewhere to dispose of this entirely innocent-looking wriggling, cursing binbag. LIE STILL, ALICE BINBAG.

UPDATE: The internet is all "What about Lego Dimensions?" and has now turned what was a friendly intervention into an act of needless violence. Now to fish Alice out of the bag and work out whether to put this whole episode in the "Against" column for console gaming which is where Lego Dimensions lives or for internet comments. Maybe both?
